I'm willing to bet that a lot of people don't even realize there's a vj doing anything unless it's stated somewhere on a flyer (art show by someone, visuals by someone, feat. vj: whatever, etc). But this past Saturday some friends of mine were doing the visuals in the main room and it was pretty spectacular. The amount of work and thought that goes into what they do is unreal, just as much as a DJ it seems. I had no idea! My friend and her boyfriend were both doing visuals, and her boyfriend actually designed and programed a program for her to use that would essentially take a 15 second clip of her drawing, loop it into his computer and allow him to edit the clip to whatever. Crazy.

This.

There are a lot of shows here that place a heavy focus on visuals. Nothing cliche, nothing overdone. Just live visuals suited for the mood of the evening. There's enough emphasis on visual art in this city that Decibel Festival always has one visual showcase with visual artists as headliners and new, local Ambient acts adding a soundtrack to it. Some very, very neat stuff.

Live visuals, when done right, are great.

The only visuals I recall really enjoying was Dieselboy airing part of the anime movie "Spriggan" during his set, and seeing AVB in NYC a few years ago, with clips of random GBA games including Fire Emblem, on screen.

Like bartenders, I only seem to notice them when they're bad :/

Like bas pointed out though, that probably says more about me than VJing...

i have a friend that does visuals and the gear and all the clips he has and they way he blends and mixes is wicked, especially when the intensity matches the music
