I can tell really easily when it's a track I've produced or listened to in my headphones a thousand times.

Aside from that, nope.

I did my own tests and I honestly couldn't tell the difference between 320 mp3 and wav.

I love the excuses people come up with to explain why it's not a valid test. Blind tests are the ONLY valid test!

If you don't think that he picked an appropriate sample, then name a better choice. Don't just rabble and blow hot air.

All right, you people who whined about the age and lack of fullness in the Orbital clip, I've added a fuller and more modern clip to the original post, from a tune by Hybrid made in 2003. Same procedure as outlined before, two reference files and a test file, you have to guess which formats are in which order in the test file. Have a crack at it.

You need very high quality speakers and audio gear to actually hear the difference.

On average headphones, forget it.

Mp3's are made to remove sounds you dont hear

That's a load of crap. I can hear the difference on a pair of $600 monitors, in a pair of $200 headphones or even in my car, WITH road noise.

Mannix vs Kaymak - World Gone Mad. Specifically, the part at about 55 second mark where there is a drum roll and then the bass kicks in. If BoJingles posts up 10 ten second clips of that, then I am confident of being able to pick 10 out of 10.

there is absolutely no reason to further degrade audio from cd to mp3 these days. Computers are fast and hard drives are big. Are you low on discspace or something?
