Because some of us have been listening to EDM for over 10 years and have already been exposed to much better types/genres of EDM. Pretty much everyone started listening to Tiesto/Armin/PvD which were actually good back in the day but have only went deeper and deeper down the shitter.
When I first started coming here I was a huge Oakie/Tiesto/Armin/PvD/Ferry fanboy and couldn't believe that people on a site called "Tranceaddict" would talk so much shit about them. I actually thought to myself the exact same thing you posted: "How can someone who is supposed to like Electronic Music hate these guys so much and not think it's the most awesome thing on the planet?".
Eventually I began to listen to other DJs like Desyn Masiello, Rowan Blades, Luke Fair, Hernan Cattaneo, James Holden, Sander Kleinenberg, Nic Fanciulli and others and realized how much I had been missing out. I have expanded myself to other subgenres/genres like Tech House, and Deep House and Techno and I really don't listen to Trance anymore. I just find 99% of it to be the same poppy, cheesy shit with super long breakdowns, farty basslines, and female vocals suited for 16 year olds. It just doesn't do anything for me anymore.
You would do yourself a favor if you started to expand yourself right now and save yourself a couple of years of shitty music.
Besides the set that Adam recommended, I urge you to check out this mix.
(Yes, I'm whoring this shit again, LOL)

I'm not only new to this forum but also new to electronic music. Now, I have a few questions about the different types of music. First of all, there are so many types (trance, goa, electro, house, etc...), so is there a name that just covers them all? I usually just say Techno if I'm not referring to a specific one. Is this correct or not? Also, with the many types of electronic music there are, what exactly is the deffinition of each one. I noticed that on Youtube, if someone posts a song and calls it trance, sometimes people will comment very snappy things like, "This is not trance! It's Progressive Psytrance!). Why do some people get really touchy when others get it wrong? Is it that important? So what do they all mean anyway? I know basically what trance is and I think it is my favorite type of music. But what's the difference between that and Progressive Trance, or Goa, or all the rest? This is really confusing to me and it drives me crazy! Btw, my favorite djs are Cosmic Gate, Tiesto, Rank 1, and Darude. So what type of music do they mostly do? |

Doesnt matter what it is, the normal human in 99% of modern society will call it techno. There's basically 2 types of music in the club world ... hip hop, and ... not hip hop. real, actual "music" and wordless music.

I used to be very accurate in my abilities to classify dance music into any of 30 different genres and subgenres during conversations at parties. then i got a life. i suggest you keep your life, dont go to the dark side.

its the same as people that get upset at other people that spell the word "more" as "moar" or other words misspelled not because its less characters but because they just feel like spelling it that way. there is a balance in the world that keeps things running smoothly. for example in the linguistic world, on one side you have people that want to shake things up a bit and creatively change language with slang terms, on the other side you have the A type personalities that police things and make sure language is set in stone. eventually when enough people speak the slang term or new word it eventually gets voted into the dictionary. if there was no policing going the language would develop too quickly new words, phrases, and rules and you end up with a clusterfuck of gibberish with standards that are not common to all so no one knows what the hell anyone is saying anymore.
genre definitions are the same thing, makes it easier for people to know what the hell we're talking about. i suggest just doing the ishkur guide or wiki on the genres listed on beatport or something and not trying to be a genre expert, and when someone gets pissed at you for claiming something the wrong genre, just smile with the thought that they have no life and you do.
