but innovations like these could only happen when there is free trade and support amongst two countries. It's not everyday you see American shareholders investing stock in Russian-American venture startups. Foreign policy and culture, I think, are very related..

china and america don't have the best politic relationship, yet i can't name one major US multinational corporation that doesn't operate in some form in china.

you would also be surprised how many companies operate in russia. Clearly, it isn't as many as the number that operate in China, but Russia has some serious anti-business policies that are entirely separate from US - Russian political relations.
