I used to have one of those dual core 1.8ghz intel processors.. not the core2duo and it worked like a bomb. I had 4 gigs of ram on the system though which makes a difference. Maybe you have an issue with your ram. There are test programs available on the net. Also it might be a virus that's using up all your memory and resulting in poor performance. Try Avast antivirus to search for problems, it's light on the cpu and works very well.
The last thing that comes to mind is that your power supply has degraded over time and is now not enough for your pc to perform properly.
The most important thing is that you have a decent sound card. Even my old P4 works well with a proper sound card in it

Just ran some anti virus and sure enough I had a trojan. Those bastards are sneaky, this is exactly why I keep a separate comp for the net and everything non production.
Back to the noise. I'm more concerned with what is causing it. Is it a ground loop? I doubt it's a cable issue I've tried all of my different monster cables, including two different types of prolinks.
I know I can figure it out if I know where in the chain its coming from or what sort of a noise it is. Thanks in advance. I do notice I don't get any of this on my productions so one would have to assume it's either coming from the djm-800 or the soundcard.

I think it has to be a ground loop causing it..lol can't think of anything else. I don't know if there is a way to test other than trying a ground loop isolator but they aren't too expensive.
You could try connecting your equipment up in another room in your house(on the opposite end)and see if its the same.
