I gave this a listen while I was doing some reading, so I wasn't paying close attention to the technical aspects. Nothing stood out as jarring and the flow from track to track seemed nice and smooth.

This is a different style of dubstep to what I'm familiar with, which I suppose is the more British side of things. I can see how this side of dubstep crosses with dub techno. This set was very mellow, and nicely atmospheric.

If I have a criticism it's that the set didn't really seem to go anywhere or reach anything. For a chill-out set it was nice because of the steady mood, but if I were listening closely I think I'd probably get a bit impatient with this in parts because it's more or less the same vibe throughout. For me, a vibe can only be maintained across a home listening set without variation if it's a very distinctive or unique atmosphere.

That said, that criticism is harsh because it was done on the spur of the moment, with no pre-planning. Whenever I do a set for TA I plan it out for aaaages: I make a big list of candidate tracks with tempos, keys and moods from which the tracklist is taken, and I take a couple of draft runs seeing if things work. Mixing on the fly with just a box (or HDD) of tracks makes it much harder to get flow and programming perfect.

Overall: cool mix, I enjoyed it.

Well Appleblim was awesome, Martyn was cool but the venue kind of sucked and I was entirely fucked up to truely appreciate it. I checked out Sub.Traction last week which was pretty sweet. Started out with lots of hard wobble music, which was fun for a bit...but when Inferno came on late he saved the show with the deep goodness. Only thing that sucked about that place was the lame white guy trying to MC the whole time.

Out of interest, do you guys find it easy to dance to dubstep? I find it really unnatural, because 70 is way slower than what I'm used to and I can't bring myself to go nuts like it's 140. I'm constantly having to think about how I'm dancing.

Most dubstep has a pretty high bpm; the broken beat makes it sound half as slow. But this still makes it more difficult to dance to compared to other genres.

From my limited live dubstep experience, most people aren't really dancing but just rocking back and forth and bobbing their heads. But sometimes you have the "ghetto" dubstep hipsters (which we have entirely too many of in atlanta) that are there for the electro sounding wobble dubstep...they get all buck wild jumping and waving their hands like they're at a rap concert. Its annoying.

Thanks for the comments guys. I definitely agree with what you're saying but I must say that my dubstep collection is a bit limited. I'm really only into this particular type of sound, and as you can see it tends to hold the same vibe. When I mixed this I was very in this type of mood, and I had decided beforehand I was going to use the little break from messing with actual decks to work on my flow in Ableton since I feel it's one of my really weaker points.

As for dancing to dubstep, I've only seen 2562 live, and it was a pretty cool experience. I don't really remember how I was dancing but I was indeed moving around, sometimes to the two steppy rhythm, the slower end I suppose, and sometimes towards the faster end when I felt like it called for it.

And yes, Atlanta has way too many hipster wigger douchefucks who wear the dumbest shit and leap about like maniacs at dubstep shows. It's really really annoying because they go batshit to some of the worst tracks, at least from what I saw.

I downloaded this yesterday, decided to give it a listen while I was sitting out the back in the sunshine..

I don't really like dubstep usually but this mix was very listenable.. As far as dubstep mixes go it's one of the few i've sat and listened to the whole way thru..

Same here, I've tried to get into dubstep but it never really hit me. Never enjoyed a dubstep set quite as much as this one, enydo.
The tracks, mixing, everything goes down smoothly.

And ofcourse the artwork deserves a mention.

I'll gladly check out the next one when it's up.
