I think you should be able to do good work with what you've got... FM8 and Absynth might be good though, they have a bit of a different sound. Reaktor would also probably help. You should just buy NI Komplete, it'll be cheaper in the long run.

Really though, synths aren't going to make a big difference to your sound. What you need more are probably new techniques if your sound is tired.

Yeah, exactly, because he's got a virus and a bunch of other VAs, so he obviously needs another one if he's looking for a completely different sound

Chances are the kit isn't the reason you're unable to get anything new out of what you have. Try investing in some books about synthesis and sound design. Learn what you're doing first, then worry about gear.

Get something like a Moog Phatty, that will give you sounds that nothing you have got so far comes close to.

I'd also suggest you go to a more synthesis oriented forum to ask questions like that. Most of the people here couldn't tell you the difference between sampling and synthesis... let alone give you advice on different types of synthesis.

Where do you get that idea? There have been dozens of threads here exploring different aspects of synthesis, and probably hundreds of "how do I make this sound?" threads where people offered advice...
