If it was anything like my experience with Serato Itch and the Numark NS7 at my local music store, then no, you really don't have enough experience with it to make an informed judgment. Traktor is the shit.

(blush)

'infinite' bit rate if it was recorded/produced using analog...

otherwise i pretty much agree with you.

everyone always says this - 'endless possibilities' i've never heard a 'digital dj' do something with his technology that moves me more than a great record.

who needs endless possibilities when you just need a few of the best

SO fucking true and the essence of why to me Ableton is not for DJing.

Quite on the same page with you here.

I've heard a variety of interesting things produced out of Ableton, no doubt, but few of those instances have resonated with me in the same way a particularly solid record does.

As much credit as I give to some of those who have devoted a great portion of their focus to using the technology to create/manipulate in order to build something that is more than the sum of its parts (and I don't mean to downplay the potential offered here one bit), it often feels like digital tinkering for its own sake, and rather unsatisfying.

I just wanted to mention...that I totally disagree with the notion that somebody who spins vinyl is likely to play better music than somebody who plays digitally. Sure, quality control is A LOT better if you're restricted to vinyl, but there's no reason why somebody who knows their shit can't come up with an equally as good if not better TL than somebody who uses records.

I don't have extensive experience with abelton live but unless you are planning on playing more than 4 tracks at once or use a keyboard/beat pad/sequencer/etc...then I don't really see the point, tbh.

and as well as produce full length tracks

it's really 2 pieces of software in one package.

and there's a lot of little features that can produce huge effects

such as looping VST parameters live, you can't do that stuff in traktor.

so now we have deejays, producers/live performers, and wannabes who can do neither and just fuck with other people's works of art by adding looping vst parameters and layer inane drum loops and delays

dude i agree to a certain extent but i think it's because the established digital dj hasn't done it right yet. joris voorn did something interesting with balance014, but still did it wrong (imo) and it ended up being a convoluted end-product.

the possibility is there, but people keep on fucking it up by trying to do too much at once, not do enough, or just being outright boring.

sure,

that was my point. endless possibilities aren't the answer.

insight, creativity, spirit, cleverness, etc are all that are needed, and they select the best possibilities.

with endless possibilities you also end up with endless shitty products
