A.) By all means, feel free to speak for Nick as though you're best friends with him and are absolutely 200% certain of his decision to remix this.
B.) What is the point of this remix? Do you really feel that it is at all necessary? How can you even begin to attempt defending him when you haven't even heard it? Do you really think that all remixes are done for the exact same reason(s)?
This is a bastardization of epic proportions. If you're going to sit there and say that it is to try and make it sound fresh and fit in with "today's sound" then fuck you. If you can't make a classic track that truly stands the test of time seamlessly fit into a set full of new music then you, sir, fail as a DJ. |
A) what you on about?
B) A Remix is necessary as soon as a Label that owns the parts to the track decide they want someone to remix the track to reach different listeners, different dancefloors, different genres, to bring more awarness to the original artist's music. One of the reasons someone who has never heard of MGMT might look into them, is because they heard a Justice remix of the track and decided they would like to see what the original artist has to offer. Another reason remixes are done is when a lot of time has passed since the original release of the track, and the label wants to rekindle interest for the original release and the artist, so they have artists of different genres do a remix. So the complaint is, why was a classic remixed, well it helps the classic gain more attention from the followers of that remixer or that demographic of DJs and listeners that the remixer might penetrate. Just because its a classic does not mean it should not be remixed lol. That said, im against butchering classics and I havent heard this remix, and dont think I want to, but if it brings more awareness to the original, I have no issue with a remix of a classic. And because of this thread, I think im gonna remix a classic, when I find one that inspires me to remix it.
