Ableton does have a mixing element, in terms of having a deck A and deck B and a crossfader. But thats not how the dj's im talking about use it. Deadmau5 for example doesnt mix in the traditional sense of mixing one track into the next, he combines elements of different songs and manipulates certain segments, not the entire track. That is why the dj's i mentioned (deadmau5, gui boratto, justice, daft punk) usually only play their own songs at shows. Its because they already have the individual layers and segments of their own songs stripped down on their laptop. So instead of bringing in an entire new song, they will bring in a part of it, or a vocal sample, or watever. I have nothing agaisnt digital mixing (traktor, torq, sertatonin) ... according to me, these progams are still considered "mixing" in the traditional sense. However if you use ableton you can almost create the song live, or change the song live. But my question is how much of this is actually live vs pre-recorded. do you know wat im sayin?

just to make it clear, im not talking about beatmatching. according to me the controversy over the sync function is stupid, beatmatching is only a small part of djing.

Id say there is almost no way to tell. If i had Ableton and was doing a gig i could have saved a 2 hour pre made mix and just played that, waving my hands and doing j-poses.. no one could tell the difference.
