I agree with a lot of you, and crap service is definitely quite the annoyance.

I'm also of the opinion, however, that there are a vast amount of people who's service expectations are a bit unrealistic. That may just be me, I'm pretty easy on people unless they just obviously aren't doing their job correctly.

Actually, I don't think I've ever been annoyed by that. I've had a dining experience ruined, however, not by a waiter, but by the person I invited.

I once went to an Outback Steakhouse for my birthday some years ago, and the place was packed. "Well, it IS January", I thought, "we're all on vacation, and in a shopping mall: let's ask them to add us to their waiting list, and find something else to do while we wait". And so we did.

We played mini-golf, saw some bookshops and, after an hour or so, they beeped us. Everything was fine... Or so I thought: One of my friends suddenly started throwing fits out of the blue because she thought they were slow and she was hungry. All I wanted was a bloomin' onion, and when I ordered it, they told us they weren't serving onions that night. I didn't really care, and I soon looked for something else to eat. It was crowded anyway, and I just wanted to have a snack.

But, this friend of mine was incredibly enraged, and she kept arguing with the waitress, who couldn't really do anything about it. My friend kept yelling hysterically at the waitress saying that she wanted to see the manager until they phoned the guy and he apologised to her because they had run out of onions... and that's when I eventually lost my appetite and decided to have just some coca-cola =/

I just remembered my last really bad experience. It was last summer when I was in Melbourne. We were eating in what is probably the most expensive kosher restaurant in the city (my family is all kosher) and 4 of us ordered chicken schnitzel.

Now get this - two of us were served white meat and two of us were served dark meat! Like I was eating mine (dark) and didn't notice, and for some reason tried a piece of my cousin's (white) because I think I noticed it looked different. Anyway I was pretty outraged. In the end we didn't have to pay for the two dark meat plates, but the damage was already done. And it was annoying, since it's the second time that restaurant has fucked up our food, and seemingly every other time my family has eaten there it's been really good.

I fucking hate kosher restaurants. They're terrible. It's honestly some of the worst food I have ever eaten at a restaurant. I always have to go through that shit when I visit Melbourne.

It is, but what I mean is, when four people at the same table order the same dish, who the fuck would serve two people dark meat and two other people white meat?

yea that's another we had to do at the restaurant i worked at. there was a format for writing down what the customers wanted. i.e. drinks at bottom left corner of the card and the positions at the tables were numbered so there was no "auctioning" off dishes when they got to the table.

god i love that restaurant. it's called J. Alexander's. it's excellent.

lol that sucks.

we ate at an indian food place up the street recently and the food was amazing but the service sucked. our waitress was MIA the whole time and i had to go to the front hostess stand and wait for our bill at the end of our meal because we were sitting at a table with our plates piled everywhere for about 15 minutes. that pissed me off. i've been wanting to go back there because the food was so good but i was burned by that service. i'm sure i'll go though.


and how does everyone tip?

i always give 20% if the service and food was decent or better. anything else i'll make it a point to not leave 20% so they get my drift.

Legally we are obliged to tip at least 15%...and I'm a poor mother******, so 15%

And I hear ya on that Indian joint. Places like that can be extremely slow. At least you had some time to let the food go down
