Oh yes, I forgot about the whole price difference between the 7506 and the HD-25. The HD-25 is mostly found with a straight cable, which is slightly microphonic. If you scratch or tap the cable with your finger you will hear it, but if you have anything playing you won't hear it. The straight cable is made of steel which makes it durable, but at the cost of tinny or bright highs. Supposedly the coiled cable (which has a copper core) sounds less bright, but the replacement cable alone is about half the price of the cans anyway. The coiled cable doesn't terminate in a right angle plug like the straight cable (go figure), which I like because it doesn't stick out as far. If you do want the coiled HD-25 version, you should look for the HD-25c.

The RPDH-1200's are the closest to my 'ideal' cable- coiled, detachable, and terminated in a right-angle adapter.

2 years ago, maybe.

Pretty much every DJ big name I've seen lately has switched to the Sennheisers.

Ricardo Villalobos

Loco Dice

Luciano

Damian Lazarus

Konrad Black

Droog

Martin Landsky

And there are many more

The technics are too heavy and break really easy at the swivel part. Not a big fan of the sound.. seems really bright and muddy at the same time.

the only thing about the technics is once again, they way they grab my head, i'm thinking about buying them to supplement my headphone collection though

funny story, i went out shopping for new cans, looking for the technics, only to find they were out of stock

i needed headphones and saw the 7506's, remembered reading about their history and bought them instead

now here i am today, years later still loving my purchase (although i've gone through 2 pairs since, drunken nights)

I think there is a common misconception that the Technics are really heavy, possibly due to them being listed as 3 pounds on a lot of sites.

Note that I've only tried them on once, and to my recollection, weren't that much heavier than a pair of ATH-M50's or Sennheiser HD-280's. I too was thinking about grabbing a pair recently just to try them out, but I've been trying really hard to resist. I have enough headphones already =P.

I did manage to convince a friend to get them (wasn't hard, lol), but she's off in the Netherlands for a bit so I can't try them out. It seems like the RP-DH1200 is still pretty popular based on a quick sample of the photos on rukes.com.

Wow thanks for all the info guys! I went down to the store today and tried a pair of the sony 7506's and the sennheiser HD-25 and i end up coming home with the sennheisers. Liked them more due to the bigger sounding bass than the 7560's.

Thank you everyone for there replys and help!

That's something i noticed as well but coming from a dj's perspective I'm not sure that's the most important part, well for me anyway.

They sound fantastic (25's) but when it comes to mixing i'll usually always 90% of the time anyway use the highs to beatmatch.

IMO the senns are better for production, although I'm not saying they're not good for dj'ing just sometimes I find it easier to match beats on cans that are slightly clearer in the mids/highs without them causing your ears to fatigue.

I dunno, i'm waffling a bit but just my 2c.

How much would you be looking at paying for a pair of HD-25s? I've seen a store selling them at £140, is that really how expensive they are these days?

(UK stores and prices only please.)
