Bazaar, the Mark, Opera, each of those places is of importance and has it's place in Atlanta. Sort of works in synergy to bring a vast amount of talent from all genres spread across your city. The fact you guys have a lay out like that is awesome. We do not have anything remotely close here in charlotte.

agree totally, you need everything you can get. It is a shame some people just simply do not understand this.

Originally posted by Lostvission There is dreamz...but i know the quality of trance shows if held there would be horrid. Their system was extremely bass heavy to the point i was straining to focus on the highs in the songs at s&d. Trance music being that it's based on synth leads would be just awful sounding there...they would have to have a sound engineer redesign everything there if opera closed and the big room talent moved there.

The sound that was in Dreamz for S&D was not the normal sound system. The extra bass is what S&D want so when their drops come in, it gives the crowd something to scream about. Trust me, without it the night would not have been the same.

But back to the point of this thread...yeah theres a little politics involved when it comes to weekday bookings. Just sucks Opera has booted edm out of thursday to appease the hip hop crowd.

hehe, another person from charlotte that understands things more than someone from Atlanta

nope, but I can promise you I have been to more headlining edm events in Atlanta than you could ever dream of. Hate to get in to a whos dick is bigger contest but unless you have gone under another alias then I have probably gone to more PVD shows worldwide then you have gone to any show in Atlanta.

Yeh but I can guarantee you that if Liquified would have brought S&D to NATC then it would have been a major failure in every way.

When they do get booked at Opera, it tends to be a giant sardine can and is miserable even for people that enjoy that music. Yes, it would help if there was a better option for stuff that is too big for The Mark but too small for Dreams or elsewhere.

Exactly, more options are needed, not less. Losing Opera would be a big loss to Atlanta EDM. You would have less appearances of some of the bigger DJs since they would not do huge show in Atlanta once a year at somewhere like NATC or Dreamz.

I'm usually not interested in DJs that fall into that category so I don't personally care, but I would probably be more willing to check out stuff I normally wouldn't...because it honestly takes alot for me to step in to Opera. This is why we need wetbar back.

Viva las Wetbar, an excellent club. Many people on other forums and this forum talked crap about the place at first mainly because of having a gay crowd when EDM events started to get thrown there but as time went out the gay crowd was pushed out by the straight crowd and the club could not survive on just EDM events. I understand you dont like the more mainstream DJs and thats cool but dont sit there and have the attitude that the world would be a better place without a certain club

I'm not really sure what your point is, but I'm saying saying that Opera isn't essential for Atlanta's EDM scene. There will always be plenty of talent here...take another look at Liquified's summer/fall lineup and tell me how many events at Opera you see.

Those events are smaller events, most likely right up your alley (not saying thats a bad thing). Thankfully liquor sales help pay for those events because the door alone does not.

Not a Liquified event. $68.00 general admission as well. Enjoy what you get with your purchase price if you go

And by the way, when I say local promoters, I'm talking about people like CUDS/Diagnostik/Heat that bring in INTERNATIONAL talent like Seth Troxler, 2562, Konrad Black, Ryan Elliot, Adultnapper, etc...of course thats not going to sell out a mega club but that is plenty of quality events. Atlanta has a fast growing techno scene and Opera closing would have no effect on.

Not really big names over here, probably cheap to bring. Overseas flight, 2 grand, and a hotel with some liquor on the rider and you got them. Konrad Black probably the only exception.

You sure about that, when one club goes under people dont all go to one place they spread out because they really do not know where to go. They are like untrained sheep.

Yeah, which is why they had it at Dreams.

More GOOD options are needed...Opera's staff and sound system are inexcusable. Many, MANY people in Atlanta feel this way. I could give a fuck about ever going again, regardless of who is playing there.

Definitely not going to Deadmau5, but its actually $20 according to masq.com. Just saying.

Perfectly cool with that, I can pay $5 to see better music in one of the coolest spots in Atlanta because of that.

Of course...these people enjoy the posh/VIP/douchebag atmosphere of Opera, they're obviously going to migrate to similar places...places I avoid.

Guess it all comes down to the music you're in to, but personally I wouldn't be affected by Opera closing...actually I'd laugh, because that place fucking deserves it after seeing the way they treat customers. Even so, I really think Devin wouldn't find it too hard to find somewhere else for trance.

Meh, they space the big shows out long enough to where if you can't schedule time off to go then that's your own issue.
Appreciate what you have. Our scene is blowing up wayyyy beyond complaining that Ferry is on a Wednesday.

I wouldn't mind paying more for friday.

Thats because we have not released our fall line-ups at opera. The reason the Deadmau5 show is at the masquerade is because we have a freaking massive show at opera the very next night. You are also going to be seeing us do some weekend ahows at opera in the near future as well. And we have Tiesto on a SATURDAY at NATC.

Cool, wasn't sure because I didn't see anything listed there until October. The September lineup at the Mark already has my interests, hopefully another Kompressed soon?

where to start...

wednesdays are great nights to do shows in atlanta, in case you haven't noticed clubs, bars and music venues don't usually have a problem marketing the right show with a weekday night like this. now, of course i'm not saying wednesday is better than a friday or saturday night, but a metropolitan city's nightlife will go on with or without you. we do 3rd wednesdays at El Bar, which is no big club by any means, but we sell out the venue every time. if everyone just moved everything of significance to the weekend (i once saw Radiohead on a thursday) then we wouldn't get nearly as much music. it's a really unrealistic way of looking at live music, bookings and bar/club management.

i've done the 9-5 (really 8-6 when work piled up) before and i've made time to go out if something really good comes to town during the week. just don't get too crazy, leave somewhat early and you can still get a good night's sleep. don't complain to us that you don't want to sacrifice zzzs for a good time every now and then.

are there really people snobbish about only seeing top ten djs? or only going to shows that are so insanely taxed? (i'm sorry but if you pay to see deadmau5 at masquerade at that price, you would probably fare better just throwing your money down a well) at that point aren't you just going for a name and not the music? i promise there are some (lots) smaller time djs out there too.

if opera didn't exist, devin would just find another place for people like ferry corsten and carl cox.

lol @ $2k for those names mentioned btw
