I know what you mean about hooking your ipod up to your cdj400's. I have mine hooked up to my xone sometimes as well.

I used to own Serato, but nearly a year ago I switched to TSP.
And just before that my Vestax PCV 275 was replaced by the xone92.
Then i bought the DX2.

Here's a wee picture I uploaded recently (it's also in the bedroom thread). All this is in a 2 storey garage 30 foot away from my house so sessions are barely heard next door. Quite handy seeing as I'm still living at home.

Yeah nelly, I'd def. keep the Techs at this point and just save up for a CDJ. I've got the 800mk2s and love them to death, but, yeah, I'd just add them on later.

BTW, you'd def. wanna get 800s over the 400s, just for scratching alone, especially if you're used to vinyl.

Main advantages with using the cdj's is the size, the loop buttons and the fact that you can pause and cue a specific point without having to keep your hand on the record.

The vinyl mode on the 800s is pretty responsive also.

This seems to be the consensus. If i were to buy a cdj now it would be the 800. Not a fan of the 400's. The platter is just too small for me.

Great response to this thread. Thanks a million lads.

The sad fact is, (as seen in my other post on this forum) that if you'd purchased your CDJs this time last year you'd have had the 1000s for the same price as the 800s are today, give or take a few quid.

And then 3 months after that you could pick up a pair of cheap 1200's because the supply exceeds the demand of the market.

Fucking genius!

If anyone had some money around they should really just buy a bunch of them. Bit of a gamble but could pay off

Although I'd say the margins will be so small it wouldn't be worth it.

End of the day I'm not sure whether a Dj Hero player would want to buy the industry standard kit or splash out on a 100€ belt drive turntable because they don't know any better...

If there's anything this world isn't missing is wankers and people with too much money

I remember a thread here in the DJ Booth not too long ago started by a total noob with absolutely no experience asking how to hook up his brand new CDJ1000s and his Xone92.

I'll throw my hat in and say keep the Techs.

400's would make more sense with their native HID support in Serato and Traktor Scratch Pro. Also, Pioneer is likely announcing new players in a month or two (they've mentioned a "revolutionary" product coming in September).

If you are feeling the itch to buy something, maybe add on a MIDI controller or try out Traktor Scratch...

Cheers, haven't heard that association before

The name of the set/s is a piss take between myself and my mates. I never intended to share these. Unfortunately all my mates call me nelly (last name Neligan) and I think we've got more than enough nelly's out there. So I think I'll just go with my name (Steven Neligan, or SteveN)

Interested to see the new products from pioneer too - it turns out that financially they are on the ropes and they really can't afford a dud product. It better be great, and affordable.

400's missed the mark though because they didn't use the same platter as the 800 or 1000. I wouldn't buy them now as I reckon it will be one of the one they soon discontinue.

Nelly - good for you - stick with the techs.

As for just pitch mixing, just ban yourself from touching the platter altogether. I mean it, just DO NOT TOUCH THE PLATTER. Your mixing will suffer for a couple of weeks and it will make you pissed off but then suddenly it will click and you'll never look back.

What mixer are you using now then?
