Yea, they are connected to the mixer (Vestax) and then the 3.5 to the laptop.

On the mixer it is almost in the red but through the laptop it just sounds muffled.

Maybe it has something to do with there being no Line In, no?? Or maybe I'm missing a setting for the quality. I've not changed the defaults.

Can you tell me what the quality settings should be?

I have to have something not right because the levels maxed out it is just not as near as loud as say any audio file online or something playing in itunes, and it sounds muffled and sort of like a blown woofer. Weird.

I wonder if it has anything to do with me running Windows XP in VMware on the MBP.

Should I have installed the OS X version? Is there an OS X version?

uninstalled what from VMWare and installed OS X version of what? I have no idea what u are talking about, but just open up GarageBand (in OS X ofcourse, not bootcamp caus its not there) and select the right input. watch the levels. u dont want to destroy the input. Red on the mixer means overdrive!

why dont u just use garageband when its included in osx? u dont need to install shit. part of what i like with apple is that the included software is pretty good. ive removed garageband myself as i have logic instead so i cant make u a step desctription but i know its not dificult. btw u should use 320kbps and 44,1kHz mp3-encoding options. stay away from VBR (variable bitrate).

garageband 09 was my first initial thought and i did try it. i couldn't seem to find how to do it and/or what options to select.

that is why i tried audacity. it was simple. just open it, select the line in option, and press record. is garageband that simple and im just missing it?

id like to give it a go again. if someone can point me to, or tell me, how to im up for trying it. id appreciate it.

thanks.

i THINK this might be the way to do it in garageband and get it into itunes. somebody who knows this more please say yes, no, or otherwise.

- new project
- loops
- track -> real instrument

then record it

then when its done to get it into itunes
- share
- send song to itunes

is that right, wrong??

you say 320kbps

from what i can tell garageband, when sharing to itunes, only goes to higher quality which is 192kbps.

is there a higher setting?
