I don't think both are that separate at all, but I got your point. Every single promoter relies on dj mag nowadays. "You need to be there or you'll be... square". I don't believe there will be changes and to be honest, I don't care much about it. The public is tired of whores, but the press relies on them. Because whores pay for the advertising. If you don't advertise into dj mag, you don't get an interview, if you don't get an interview, you remain unnoticed. That's their point of view.

I had been intensively dj'ing since 1996 when I decided to give up on decks. It took me two years to realize that the dj mag thing shouldn't influence one's career. And now, it's all about dj'ing in Belgium here, and finding good dates and residencies. End of story. I voted for myself this year, and I don't feel ashamed, but don't expect to see me inside this list anyway. There are better opportunities elsewhere. We all just need to see them. And we don't need to whore and be on our knees for votes from fans, like many do. Because this way they just put the sticker "WHORE INSIDE" onto their faces.

Now can someone tell me why there's an integrated database so when you start typing, some names appear, and some don't???

I feel vote rigging from dj mag themselves this year. That's the only change.

Like in everything else in life, it's a question of balance. Question is: where is the middle on yours?

Seen so many fucking vote for me bulletins and ad campaigns already. Fucking disgusting imo. Why don't you promote your shows that hard ass fucks? (Not referring to you lolo).

Just pisses me off people think that's how you get votes and make it in this industry. Post up a fucking picture saying vote for me and posting 18 million bulletins/emails a day.

God no wonder we are all in a fucked recession.

Hey I agree with everything said. You'll see the people I voted for are not 'whoring' themselves out. (At least I don't think they are, I didn't go to each of their MySpaces when voting) - I just tried to approach it from an objective, fair angle.

I completely understand where Laurent is coming from and it's hard to disagree. In a perfect world, there would be no whoring and money along with who you know (or don't know) wouldn't dictate your ranking (or lack of), but unfortunately that is not the world we live. That isn't an excuse though. There are still enough purists out there who can make their voices heard. It just seems they become fewer and fewer every year, and this rock star celebrity whoring yourself out MTV approach to "DJ'ing" gets bigger and bigger. It's so fake though and it's only a matter of time before it all comes crashing down like a house of cards. (And make no mistake, DJMag will be at the bottom of the pile)

Just a question of having dj mag crashing for good. And believe me, it won't be too long until it happens. The guys with the money (the publisher's board) just need to push the right button and it's over. RIP DJMAG. Now guess why I'm not whoring myself to get votes and why I remain completely quiet about this?? Man, you're much more worth than this dj mag thing for many, including myself. Meanwhile, it's very hard to neglect the power of this poll. Today it's dj mag's, tomorrow my be another one's.

Hey Stephen, I think we'd better discuss this on AIM. I think I have a good idea about how to put an end to this, and want to share it with you. You can add me easily, my screenname is realairwave

Meh to the whole thing. It really does nothing for me but that doesn't mean I wouldn't want to be on the top 100.

It should actually be refered to as the industries favourite DJ rather than best.
People with little tallent score highly and some with more don't get a look in.

The question I have always wondered about is, if trance is apparently dead, then why do Trance DJs still score so high? Conflicting messages for sure.

Personally I would like to see Ferry hit the top spot. He's worth it and has more than paid his dues.

I have rambled enough...

Cheers
Nem

Airwave, tell us what went into making one of my favorite trance tracks of all time King Of Clubs - Revelation (Airwave Remix).

What did you use, what was the philosophy behind everything in it (if any), do you remember any interesting reactions to it?

^ lol the subtle approach. i hate dj vote requests.. alot of my friends are dj's who spam the shit day in and day out to get votes.. to a point where all their facebook status is, is a personal advertisement for a "vote for me", or .

if you're fucking talented, you'll fucking get votes, stop flooding my fucking inbox.

Wish more people held this attitude. It takes a lot of enthusiasm out of music realizing what lies down the road in the big leagues at the top.
