The bigger your room is generally the less room treatment you need. If you look at the big studios, the rooms are so large and the monitors positioned well enough (ie away from walls) that they rarely need any bass traps.

Alan obviously does as his room is small so he wants to minimise the "bouncing off the walls" and also because his monitors are close to the corners which can wreak havoc with the low end.

Microlab - The trick is to learn what your monitors sound like by listening to other tracks, that way you will know what to compensate for. Also it's very important to check your tracks on other sources which you're very familiar with like your iPod, car stereo, regular hi-fi speakers etc.

Your argument seems to be "the pro's do it" so your just as guilty in that department too my friend. All I'm saying is it might not be so essential or important to go buy "$1000" worth of treatment. Is it ideal to go buy treatment? Hell yeah! Am I going to do that before I buy a decent pair of monitors? Hell no. I've actually seen it suggested that treatment is more important than good monitors.

Get a wav of one of those sweeping sines and listen if the volume suddenly goes up or down.

they go hand in hand. If you're buying krk rockits or yamaha hs, then acoustics probably are going to be a major cbf. however, if you are buying dynaudio, focals and so on, you would be stupid to not put some money into acoustics (if your acoustics are not good, which they probably aren't). speakers only sound as good as the room they are in, that is the point. $1,500 dynaudios will sound like $400 krks in a poor room. in such circumstances you would be better off buying $1,250 monitors and putting $250 into your acoustics - then you have $1,250 speakers that sound like $1,250 speakers. make sense?

Get PA speakers lol, they get the sound out there anyway. just keep a bit distance lol so u get the real stage feeling of things, this is how it will be playd back anyway.

i guess ima retard and i i'm too lazy to buy foam, but i dont understand how putting acoustic foam can increase the sound quality of the sound.
