my 2 cents...

people may say that Guetta's lil collabo's with kelly rowland and akon are garbage. that they give edm a bad name. that he's whoring out DJ talent to make money.

the term sellout has been thrown around throughout the years for things like this. "Oh he's such a sellout, making trash to get paid," "oooh, they're killing the scene, now all these wannabe's are in the scene and think they know whats up"

I'm not saying anyone is doing that in this thread, im just saying that im pretty sure people are thinking that. maybe i'm wrong

but regardless...

what do you all consider to be the purpose of music. Why does music exist. I'm pretty sure that music's first origins were for religious ceremonies. so is every artist EVER a sellout? of course not.

my point is that music makes people feel good. And if Guetta can reach the most amount of people he can, and make sooo many people bob their heads or dance around or sing along in the car to the radio... hasn't he done his job???

I mean think about it. Pop music, while i agree is pretty horrible... britney spears, backstreet boys, ying yang twins tracks that are on the radio, uhh... i dunno, any one hit wonder. All of these people reached a massive audience and, if only for a brief moment, made a lot of people smile, thus making the world a better place, no??

so in conclusion i say go DG, do yo thang. Sheeiiiiit. You cant hate on someone because hey, the more people hate, the more successful you know you are. Straight up.

and now im going back to studying. Double majoring SUCKS!! I have homework in calc AND financial accounting, AND CLASSES HAVENT STARTED YET

I've always been a fan of his...I've always liked his fmif remixes w/ garraud for about 4 years now (since mid 05)...just a little more love was an amazzzzzzzzzzzing song and so was the world is mine (when it came out)...ive seen him play amwesome sets as well as identical sets to the previous nite and as a fan that kinda left a bad taste in my mouth...but it seemed those nites people were more into his music than ever

he is a party dj...he throws fun parties...while his production value is questionable at best -- wmc 08 was awesome, cielo 07 was crazy, halloween 06, wmc 06 were all sickkkkk parties

nowadays i prefer mr guetta in smaller dosages, like once a year...u see him one time, youve seen him a 100 times

and as for his live shows...the only other dj that ive personally seen test the volume levels in a club like him is adam beyer...thats one of the reasons i enjoy his parties...he gets reallllly f'n loud in a club

thats my two cents as well...

and before anyone dislikes what i say...im a HUGE techno/minimal fan and have been for years...and armin at roseland for halloween was a shitload of fun...good music IS good music, fun parties ARE fun parties

This sounds like stuff you would hear @ a gay club.

I agree with Ravi. Music is music, some people take it way too seriously. Most people going out just want to have a few drinks, dance their asses off and just have a good time (unlike some nerds that go to a party, stand to the side bopping their head with a pen and paper in their hands to keep a list of all the goddamn tracks played that night).
I know what I like, and sometimes I can be somewhat closeminded about it. But my opinion of some music doesn't mean sh*t to anyone, just like anybody else's opinion (unless you're some big name music critic).
I once had this conversation with a good friend who works for AM Only and is part of the team that works with Tiesto. He said that his music might be garbage, but as long as there's people who aren't snobs or "connoisseurs" about electronic music, he will sell records. He made Tiesto a brand instead of just being an artist, which is what the music industry is about. Same thing with Guetta. This is why everyone is running around buying Tiesto merchandise and FMIM t-shirts. This is not underground anymore, this is pop culture. Nobody gives a sh*t (except for our community) about whether or not they are contributing anything good to the arts because the love of arts do not sell out records or whole stadiums or pays the bills or puts food on the table. Whoever is in this business without wanting fame or money has to be out of his f*cking mind (then again, most TRUE artists are nuts).

Get real, people.

guetta is producing fucking hip hop now :/

LOL

I didn't hear anybody complaining when Morillo did some garbage with Diddy like 5 years ago. It was actually worse than this Guetta joint.

the problem with Guetta is that the new comers to the scene think he is the best house DJ. Even worse is when Pacha promotes him as the #1 house DJ in the world...just cause he is highest "house" DJ on the DJ mag list.

the day Guetta is a better house DJ then Mr.Howells or DT will be the day when ARC re-opens

after what he did to surf on sunday, you will be waiting forever lol
guy was a fukin beast, but i would love to see arc reopen ha ha

but yea i agree with what you said, its all his new songs and the way he is being marketed to alot of new people and stuff as him being the best house dj, like i told a co-worker of mine i liked house music and the first thing he goes to me is like "yea i like house did u hear that new kelly roland track with guetta"? iam like nah thats not my style...but point is people still think its good house music meanwhile its pop
and to make this thread even worse, there was a article in the post a few months ago they had a lil interview with the owner of pacha and it said they paid guetta $60,000 for his last apperence at pacha
thats just insane
