Pelican - The Fire In Our Throats Will Beckon the Thaw is a favorite.

Check out Kylesa, Torche, Cult of Luna, Russian Circles are all pretty solid. I'm in class so I can't listen to the links and tell exactly the style you're looking for, but you might enjoy some of these. Some are a little less "metal" than others, and some of it might be too heavy for you. This isn't a genre I'm very knowledgable about, but one that has piqued my interest and I really enjoy on occasion.

Torche looks interesting.

Also, fun fact:

Earth is a Seattle-based band that's been around long enough to have Kurt Cobain do backing vocals on their older releases.

This CD is loaded with uplifting, energetic, blood moving tracks intricately mixed with angelic perfection. From that moment on, I could feel the magik flowing through my veins while listening to the music that Tijs carefully samples and produces. His creativity allows him to develop the concepts of songs that bring life and energy to people around the world.

maybe I'm in the wrong genre but... Electric Wizard, Sleep, Kyuss, Atomic Bitchwax, and Orange Goblin are pretty good.

Sunn O))) are great, they outdid themselves with the new album, i love it. You could check out their earlier bands: Goatsnake if you're looking for a more bluesy kind of stoner doom, and Burning Witch if you want to hear some of the darkest, most demented drone doom ever recorded (approach with caution).

The Melvins of course are highly influential, they inspired bands like Earth. Check out their albums "Houdini", "Stoner Witch" and "Stag". They have a great experimental edge to their music. They also had ties to Seattle and were friends with Kurt Cobain early on.

If you like the Melvins you could check out some dirtier, full-blown sludge metal (doom + hardcore) like Eyehategod, pissed off badasses from the swamps of Louisiana who hated everything and everyone, their second album "Take as Needed for Pain" is their best.

If you don't want to focus too much on the rather vague 'stoner' tag that i associate with more unpretentious bands and are looking for something more textured, cerebral and progressive: NEUROSIS, one of the greatest and most unique bands ever. More or less everything you find in the 'post-metal' category either owes a huge debt to or is in some way coloured by the influence of this band. All albums by them from "Through Silver In Blood" and onwards are amazing. Their last album "Given To The Rising" is one of their best and i highly recommend it. Or for a quick introduction: the excellent EP "Sovereign". This might not be exactly what you're looking for, they're not a drone metal band, but there is a strong inclination towards drone and minimalism in their music that you could call something like experimental/avant-garde doom with roots in hardcore (which is why they're sometimes refered to as 'sludge') with some industrial post-punk influences, ambient, elements of dark folk music and some characteristics shared with post-rock. Or simply the original post-metal band.

I shall have to check this out.

Neurosis are great but haven't heard that much and sun O))) are just great.

Here's a Funeral Doom band that does trippey/stoner stuff. It's like stoner death metal. Unfortunately NOXBC9701040 got removed off youtube.
