Welllllll, I would use the term "medicine" lightly

Is it swollen? Is it hot? Is it redder than usual? If so then it's most likely a minor infection so should probably see a doctor.

It is redder than usual, but not swollen or hot.

Hmm, could be an ingrown hair that's gone a bit berserk. I've had a couple of those before.

Well chances are it will soon

It most probably was a pimple or a minor cut but when you popped it it might have got infected. The elbow can get infections quite easily because you move it so much which makes it hard for the skin to heal over properly. Plus elbows are generally fairly dirty anyway. I doubt it's anything serious but like with any infection it can get serious if left untreated.

Go see a Dr. The only problem with doing that is the long wait.

It might be staph, but if it is, its probably the more common infection type known as a boil. Its a staph infection around a hair follicle.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boil

I have gotten them a few times before, I actually had one on the side of my neck a few days ago. I poppped it and it went away within a day and a half. To be honest I blame washing with soap that morning.

They are usually painful to the touch, and if they are on your shoulder then any movement of the skin around there can irritate it.

I got one on a pube once, ffs that hurt like a bitch!!!

My advice, DONT try and pop it using your fingers, if you feel like you need to see a doctor do so, otherwise what I have done is sterilize a sewing needle using a lighter and rubbing alcohol/hydrogen peroxide and then puncture the boil. Squeeze so it drains and then keep the puncture wound clean. Holding a hot towel against the boil before and after can help facilitate draining. If it doesn't clear up in a couple days go to the doctor.

A topical disinfectant, like Neosporin or something along those lines is best to keep the area around the puncture wound clean as it heals.

I've had a staph infection before.. they are very itchy and they spread around the area fairly quickly. looks simply like a zit or something to me nothing crazy.

If you're worried, check it out at the doctor, staph infections are difficult to treat because they are easily resistant to certain antibiotics.

They are only resistant if it is MRSA or some other less common strain (though MRSA is becoming much too common).

A former coworkers sister and brother-in-law got MRSA from rented wet suits in Hawaii on their honeymoon. They were actually in the hospital because of it. They still get very serious infections on their lower chest and stomach area.

Another coworker and one of my friends from when I was a kid got a MRSA infection on the side of his chest. He didn't check it out for like a week. When he went to the doctor they said it was MRSA and if he hadn't shown up in the next couple of days it would have bore through to his lung tissue. He literally had a hole in the side of his chest.
