I'm not so sure that I'd play the race card on this one either. It's close though, with dipshit being from South Carolina.

However, I think it's probably just a stunt to grab the talking points away from the speech itself. Hell, I've been awake for all of 20 minutes and turned on the computer, and this news was the headline, and not the content of the speech.

The fuck does a lunatic congressman interrupting during a speech have to do with race? What, cuz Obama's BLACK? So basically anyone criticizing the president, it's because he's black, not because they disagree with his policies.

It was wrong, but I loved Pelosi's reaction. Like a grandmother in church..."Who said that?!?!?"

It really doesn't take much to provoke a rant from you, does it? One person in a thread speculates about race and four people say it isn't a factor and you throw a tizzy about how the "Left" only has a race card and nothing else to play? You seriously need to take a deep breath sometimes.

Furthermore, the rules on illegals aren't actually changing. Under the current Republican-approved situation, illegals are able to purchase insurance from private companies willing to dispense it. You think these private corporations are going to say no to a paying policy-holder?

What the H.R. 3020 does is explicitly prohibits the use of federal funds to subsidize the insurance plans of illegals. You're right - it doesn't prevent them from purchasing private policies legally.

ignoring the ironic statement....

compared to politics in other parts of the world, e.g., britian, where the prime minister is heckled by members of parliament on a weekly basis, US politics is very formalistic and traditional.

This is the correct answer to the argument.

As far as the topic is concerned, this isn't a matter of race, this is a matter of the Republicans refusing to compromise on any health care bill. They will oppose Obama and the Democrats at any cost, even if it means humiliating themselves in front of the entire country.

I guess an interesting question to pose (not defending Wilson by any means) is, if/since no illegals will be covered by any reform, why are the 10-12 million uninsured illegals included in the 47M uninsured number that gets thrown out there?

Either we are to believe that a) they will be "legalized" by the time significant reform is passed, or b) perhaps this plan won't need to cost as much as advertised, or c) ??? Hellifiknow.

I suppose since they live here anyways, we will include them, but under no circumstances will they be covered by any Federal Health Insurance.

http://factcheck.org/2009/08/seven-...ut-health-care/

One Republican congressman issued a press release claiming that "5,600,000 Illegal Aliens May Be Covered Under Obamacare," and we’ve been peppered with queries about similar claims. They’re not true. In fact, the House bill (the only bill to be formally introduced in its entirety) specifically says that no federal money would be spent on giving illegal immigrants health coverage:

quote:
H.R. 3200: Sec 246 — NO FEDERAL PAYMENT FOR UNDOCUMENTED ALIENS

Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States.

Also, under current law, those in the country illegally don’t qualify for federal health programs. Of interest: About half of illegal immigrants have health insurance now, according to the nonpartisan Pew Hispanic Center, which says those who lack insurance do so principally because their employers don’t offer it.

So Joe Wilson made an ass out of himself for no reason. Wouldn't be the first time a Republican did that.
