No I've Never really done that Since I got into EDM.everything I hear is mixed.thats just how I started Its like when I First brought Vinyl Back in 2006 I brought it becouse I new that was what I wonted to mix. But I wouldn't just play through those Becouse I know what thay where before I brought them. I get though about 4 to 5 hours of trance a day that would be radio shows.

I have actually placed a limit on myself with regards to what I buy everymonth. It has made me much more careful about what I buy and has helped me retain my relationship with music even in MP3 format.

Think about where a track would go in a set in terms of energy and flow etc. and then work out what you are missing... admittedly harder when you are first starting out.

Cheers
Nem

I do this as well, and still probably use less than half the stuff I buy. It's just the way it is with buying stuff online and not being able to hear the whole thing in perfect quality - some stuff sounds more promising from the clip online than it turns out to be, etc and some of it you always mean to play but just never find the right chance!

And some stuff sounds great right up until you actually try mixing it, when you realise the mastering's awful or it doesn't fit with your other tunes as well as you thought.

At the end of the day I don't see a couple of quid as too much to gamble on whether a tune will be as good as I hope it will from the sample. If I get one stonking tune, that easily makes up for a couple of duds in my eyes.

Mp3 format

I Agree with you it is exactly like that! But it's not that I have just started out mixing cds. The problem came when I had to buy all my music. I am ashamed to admit it but all the stuff I downloaded I got for free. The reason I did this was simply becouse I spent so much money on Vinyl + cd. I just could not afford buy downloads.

Anyway as new vinyl relases this year have got less and less and is all now virtualy just samplers of the labels most populer tracks.
So not much varity when chosing.

About 3 mounths ago I started to buy my mp3s so thay are proper legel. But becouse of all the suff I had got before I felt I could not mix what I had brought with I got free so thats whay I did not have meny tracks to play with.

One of the reasons I asked the question was to see what kind of advice you guys dish out.as I don't post much on here.Must say the advice is first class.
Thanks for the advice everyone!
