to explain abit audio interface and soundcard is the same. if u are using a laptop u need it to be USB (or firewire) beacuse its not possible to change internal soundcards on laptops. if u have a big home PC desktop kind of thing u can get pretty decent soundcards to put inside it but why not just go USB anyway?
it all depends on if u want better sound or not. i know people who dont produce but are really focused listeners, and therefore gets good soundcards.

Yes. But as I said. He will not hear any difference between balanced and unbalanced cables. The noise will still be there if he uses a shitty internal soundcard, because its a) a shitty soundcard and b) internal. No cables will help here.
