Yes, lots of "DJs" now are simply producers trying to promote their own tracks (or tracks on their labels) and "get their name out there" so people will buy more of the records they make. They are walking, talking commercials for themselves and their friends.

it is not even about buying the records.
a busy schedule will almost always make you more money than a release, even if it lands on a comp.

there are more like timmo maas who release stuff, but have it "ghost written" or produced for them. That production or 2 gives them more bookings even if they didn't make it.
