As mentioned, however, there are points where it does not work too well either. The transition to Mongolian Rider does not harmonize very well, and there were a few other occasions where the beats clearly didn't match.

It's funny. As I was trying out various cue points in that one, I was listening to it on my Senn 580s through my computer speakers, and although I knew it wasn't the greatest harmonizing, I didn't find it terribly distracting either.

Then I listened to it on my Senn 280s on my portable player, where the bass sounds much fuller, and suddenly I noticed just how off it does sound. Funny how that works sometimes. Meh, maybe I just need to get myself a studio engineer to make it sound good on all devices.

Thanks for the comments, all. With luck, this one won't get too buried all that fast, but then that's always been Music Research's fate, hasn't it.

While the trancey moments were very nice, and I actually think you did a very credible job of maintaining a good flow and largely tidy transitions without doing more than the bare minimum of beatmatching... I'm going to have to say I didn't like the hardcore tracks.

Because we're talking about music with almost no funk or groove whatsoever, from 15-20 years ago with production that wasn't cutting edge even at the time, the melodic and atmospheric side has to be strong to carry the track. Towards the end of the mix, I didn't think the melodic ideas were strong enough on several tracks.

To quote: "Fair enough."

Yeah, the hardcore isn't going to be for everyone. Some of it is simply about blunt aggression, which was quite new for '93, but admittedly dated since. But hey, it wouldn't be a Tribute set if I didn't work it in somehow.

Really enjoying this, some great classic trance. Suprisingly recognised the second track too. For some reason... I think it's a juno reactor track or something, maybe mislabelled or something. I'll have to show my dad this set. Great from an ambient perspective(i.e. very relaxing and deep in emotion), great from a classic trance(i.e. trippey and entrancing and relaxing) perspective

Do you mean Blitz!? It might be possible, though seems unlikely. I got the track off this compilation, which is mostly a Suck Me Plasma showcase (though with a few other Music Research tracks thrown in to pad it out). Mind, it's not like Hypnotic wasn't prone to mislabeling on occasion, but I highly doubt they'd be able to get a Juno Reactor track for this comp, much less mix it up with an Audio Science one.

Yeh it's definitely the same track as Juno Reactor-Shark off Beyond The Infinite.

I don't think so. It's way different compared to this:

This is very ambient, whereas Blitz! is closer to tech-house.

Sweet. I included a track that I didn't even include. Them's some skillz. Eat your heart out, Tiestin van Schulzenyond!

Seriously, I did not include Shark. Nothing even remotely close to it. I'm sure everyone will agree.
