The problem is that all the biggest DJs play in Atlanta on Wednesday nights. For example, I believe PVD, Armin, and Ferry were all on Wednesday nights. Oakenfold was here last November on a Monday. Markus was on a Thursday. etc...
Now David Guetta, Sasha, & Above & Beyond are also on Wednesdays. I understand why these DJs booked on Wednesdays; the cost is lower and the venue (Opera) will still get a good crowd.
However, I believe for a city with the population of Atlanta, the top DJs should be booked during the weekend.
Maybe the issue is booking DJs @ Opera. Opera will usually be packed on a Friday or Saturday without a big DJ performance. It makes good business sense to book the biggest talent on weekdays.
I was excited to see that Tiesto was being brought in on a Saturday night, but we all know how that turned out...
Just my two cents... |
Liquified does a lot of weekend events and from time to time there is somebody I want to see on a weekend as well. But it seems like 90% or more of the big names I'd like to see end up coming on the weekdays and it makes it tough for us with corporate jobs. For example I'm going to try like hell to come out for Above & Beyond but my wife can't make it because of work. The next day is going to be rough.
Having said all that, I'm not sure if Atlanta really is big enough to get these guys on the weekends. So as much as I would love for these guys to come on weekends (i miss most events these days because i simply can't juggle going to them all the time and a hard day at work the next day), I can't really justify that it'd be worth Liquified's money to bring them out on the weekend. Because the venue can only hold so many people and it can pretty much pack out on a Wednesday so what's the incentive to bringing a guy on Fri/Sat if Wed packs out already? The other option is to do a weekend show and go for a bigger venue but then that's more investment/risk and does Atlanta have the EDM backbone to hold up such events? Perhaps compared to other cities in the SE, atlanta is big, but on the grand scheme of things Atlanta isn't really THAT big of a city IMHO.
