It`s not gonna happen overnight.
It's gonna take maybe a decade or so. I don't think the Nobel peace prize was centered around accomplishments for Obama.

I hate that people never take the time to actually check what is going on.

The Nobel Prize people are fully aware that he has not done much yet.

They said they were awarding this prize for hope and to encourage him to do more multilateral talks.

This prize is highly political and is fully understandable, since this is the first time in 8 years that actually wants to speak to other countries.

That's what this prize is about.

It's not about taking the time or not to know what's going on. The question in this thread is "what do you think about it"?

What I think is that it's not fair for anyone else who has accomplished something tangible to serve this world in the past. Did they ever get a prize for hope or to support their initial idea? Probably not. Will they ever get a prize in recognition of their life-time committment? I guess not if the Noble Prize committe keeps giving Prizes to people like Obama. A man, who yes, shows lots of promise, but still hasn't done much yet - the man had only been in power 2 weeks before his name was submitted as a candidate for the Nobel prize award. I think there are other ways to support Obama than to give him the Nobel Prize right away. I like Obama and I wish him luck.

I see that my previous message was not complete.

I agree with you, but as I said, with a little research you will find out that the Nobel Peace Prize is highly political and this attribution is not only understandable but also interesting.

The Nobel Prize wants to point out that for the first time in 8 years a president is willing to act as a "friendly" super-power. They also recognize that Obama was opposed to Irak and, AFAIK, opposed to Afghanistan (please correct me if I'm wrong on that one).

I also think this is prematured but on a political, symbolical and diplomatic level, this is highly interesting and cleverly done.

I don't know what to think about this, there's not a lot of people who are working for the peace nowdays, so yes, at least he's doing something

On the other hand since he's being president, south america's political situation is the worst ever seen in the last century, yet he doesn't say nor does shit....

Ohh and I don't wanna talk about the situation in Iran or North Korea

Obama's speech acknowledged the fact he didn't deserve this based on achievements (even if being the first black US President is remarkable by itself)

"
This morning, Michelle and I awoke to some surprising and humbling news. At 6 a.m., we received word that I'd been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009.

To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who've been honored by this prize -- men and women who've inspired me and inspired the entire world through their courageous pursuit of peace.

But I also know that throughout history the Nobel Peace Prize has not just been used to honor specific achievement; it's also been used as a means to give momentum to a set of causes.

That is why I've said that I will accept this award as a call to action, a call for all nations and all peoples to confront the common challenges of the 21st century. These challenges won't all be met during my presidency, or even my lifetime. But I know these challenges can be met so long as it's recognized that they will not be met by one person or one nation alone.

/This award -- and the call to action that comes with it -- does not belong simply to me or my administration; it belongs to all people around the world who have fought for justice and for peace. And most of all, it belongs to you, the men and women of America, who have dared to hope and have worked so hard to make our world a little better.
/
So today we humbly recommit to the important work that we've begun together. I'm grateful that you've stood with me thus far, and I'm honored to continue our vital work in the years to come.

Thank you,

President Barack Obama "

Not really, the tone of this message is typical Obama.
Modest, humble and ambitious but let's see how he handles himself during the course of his presidency to see if he can back up his rhethoric.
