well shelling out shit loads of money won't always solve it, take a look at Rangers in last 2 years they signed shit loads of players with a high payroll and they have not even made it to the playoffs, we need a smart GM not, and Pat Quin is definetly not the right person for the job, can't believe they signed him to a multi year contract earlier this year!

yeah well there have been players in the leage real good players that have never even won a cup, even though they deserved it, I guess you have to have the luck on your side!

The problem is that Quinn is unwilling to make *any* big moves on the trade front to get us the players necessary to make a big push for the Cup...

I still get pissed off when I think about the whole Lindros situation...the Leafs would have had to give up what? 1 lanky centre who's spending his spare time in St. John's right now and 1 defenceman (Kaberle) that Quinn always said he thought was approximately equal to the one that was traded off to Phoenix (Markov) for the anemic Reichel.

I look at teams like the New York Rangers and it frankly pisses me off, all of those new players were within the reach of the Leafs (LINDROS, BURE, Kasparitus, Holik, and son on) if they'd just been willing to spend a little more money.

I know there was some criticism up above of the Rangers but they're really starting to gel now...last year they almost made the playoffs and IMHO, would have been the favourites coming out of the East if they had, they were on an absolute tear at the end. If they start of decently this year and get a guy to replace the horrific Richter (think Dafoe) they could easily be the best team in the Eastern Conference next year or at least up there with Philly.

Cujo made his decision because he wanted to win a cup...I was really sad to see him leave as he's been my favourite goalie since he was stopping pucks in Edmonton (anyone else remember that amazing save during the 97-98 'offs where he was knocked down out behind the net, got up, sprinted back to the crease, slid across the blue ice with his stick extended and *made the save*?) but I can respect his choice...even if it was leaving TO for the hated Wings...

Quinn needs to start making trades to get the blue and white back in serious contention, until he does no big name free agents are going to be willing to sign with us (Witness failures to acquire Holik, GUERIN, and Kasparitus already!)

i wouldn't say luck... i'd say their judgement... all of these players ultimately want to win a cup once in their careers, so when they sign with clubs, they sign for a team that they think has the best chance of winning... so i completely support cujo for leaving... leafs are on the downturn... they're going to go into rebuilding in a year or 2, so we have to wait at least another 5-6 years for a contending team... *sigh*

I dont really understand why Cujo left the Leafs. I dont mind that he did, cause im a huge Red Wing fan, but dont understand his reasons. I think the leafs, if he had signed with Tdot, would have been a strong contender next year. With Cujo, other free agents would have been wooed by toronto's offers. Guerin, for ex, may have looked at Tdot as a more viable option than Dallas.

Either way, I hope Belfour works out for the Leafs. The only way I will ever see a Red Wing game is if they meet in the Cup final. Since Steve Yzerman is my favourite player, I hope they meet soon.
