1st thing I saw on there on the left was adobe CS4 which is worth way way more than what they offer. Instantly proves to me its all pirate stuff. Best test is compare prices on real sites.

If its too good to be true, as the story goes......

The thing is you could just pirate it and it wouldn't cost you the little amount they want for the DVD with the crack on it. :P

As a rule of thumb, I tend not to buy from any place with the word "biz" embedded in the name or URL.

That, and given that the site has the following characteristics:
(a) Ridiculously SEO-spammed ("cheap software download");
(b) Not secure (no SSL);
(c) Has a tag cloud;
(d) Actually has a testimonials page (which contains exactly 6 highly non-specific testimonials);
(e) Has no contact information whatsoever, just a "helpdesk" link which takes you to a completely different site...

I'd say that it's more than a little on the shady side and probably wouldn't trust them with my credit card number - or my lunch money. Or my e-mail address for that matter.

Thanks Digi I still was a bit speculative of what other guys were saying (about it being pirated) because it said in the faq that you get the original serial number.

But that list def convinced me otherwise. Sounds a lot more sketchy then I had originally thought.

And stephen, one day I will pick up either an indigo or nord 2, but at this point in the game I don't have the money (I do I just cant make that sacrifice as of yet). And when I do finally get the money, it will prob take me another year just to decide between those 2.

Ah, well that sucks. All I know to say is save. You'll be very satisfied with hardware synths for so many reasons. One reason that I like to point out that I think is not talked about much is the CPU reduction. I can now make patches on my Virus TI that used to chew up 30% of my CPU. I also think the FX on the Virus are extremely underrated and don't understand why some say they suck. In particular the Chorus on it. It is the best I have heard. The analog boost is also extremely good in my opinion. The distortion is good, and the delay and reverb are nothing spectacular but they're solid enough to where you don't need to go buy a Lexicon or whatever.

I really think its a bit silly when people come out in favour of hardware this strongly mate. There are some great advantages, but it doesn't trounce software as hard as you're making out.

You did point out that if you buy second hand you can sell for the same price, and I guess thats a big advantage in some ways. Its definately better than the ubiquitous "but it just sounds better!" Still, software's an integral part of any studio (far more than hardware will ever be again) and this thread wasn't really about software vs hardware.

We should just sticky a thread and any time someone wants to rant about it they can go there. It'll leave the other threads uncluttered.

Maybe there should just be a "general rant" thread stickied up top, and people can get all their angst out in there.

Could be entertaining.

The virus is one of the most popular and highly regarded synths on the market so how are the FX underrated?

The FX are what make the virus as the oscillators on their own are fairly weak compared to many other synths but with good use of the FX, the sounds are excellent

I think that there are more than enough old threads one can dig up for that purpose; having a sticky would only leave the impression that said rants are encouraged, which they are not.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with talking up one's latest acquisition. And there is also no legitimate reason why it needs to be turned into a generic rant against everything else on the market. Both actions convey roughly the same information, but the former generally doesn't piss people off in the process.
