It's cheaper to buy tokens if you use the TTC to commute to work and back 5 days a week, than to get a metropass. Go figure...

I take the TTC once or twice a month when the car is in the shop for emergency repairs ... No matter what, this sucks for everyone in Toronto.

That lame ass protest was gay, some should make a proper protest at the TTC head office and the garages to show how really pissed ppl are.

MTA (NYC) subway total length (passenger service): 1062km across 26 routes.

I did a calculation on this as well. It's beyond me why this is the case. LAME! I will stick to buying tokens - it's just not worth it.

I recall an article a few moons ago, where it stated that the TTC recovered their costs more (because of high fares) than any other public transit system on Earth..... makes you wonder how the other public transit systems deal with the realities.

they receive bigger government subsidies and find more creative ways to raise funds rather than always resorting to the black and white fare hikes vs. service cuts

not to mention automation and lower salaries.

We are still operating on a 1950s/60s model with year 2030 wages!

I know passes are more expensive, but I will honestly pay just to not have to dig for a freaking token every time. Plus on most days I take the ttc more than twice, so it's super convenient.

OK, enough positivity, back to griping.
$126, wtf.

Small consolation, but apparently the metropass is increasing to $121, not the originally proposed $126.

I just stood for 30 minutes while 4 full streetcars went by. it took me 50 minutes to do a 4km journey, one I could have walked faster.

Needless to say, I am not in the best of moods right now.

Why is NYC's system better than ours?

quote:
While the TTC provides the most rides per capita in North America, it raises significantly more revenue through the fare box than others. New York's transit system gets a $1.71 subsidy per ride compared to 59 cents per TTC ride.

In all honesty if feel bad for the seniors more than anything else. They a limited income and and even more limited means of attaing additional income. With all these fare hikes and new taxs I hoestly wonder how some of them can even live.
