i fell in love with the Rane mixer when I started to play at Overdose @ Parking a couple of years ago. It's my favorite mixer and it's a good thing they have it a Circus !

The Pioneer DJM 800 isn't that bad either, but completely different. But I don't know... The Rane makes your mixing more fluid... I just love it.

and Freak is right, Rane or Xone are expensive equipement for home use, do you really need such high quality?

The reason I am investing in a new mixer is because my old one is breaking, I don't want to invest into something mediocre because I want something to last me years, and it looks like rane will do just that and so will the xone.

Martin the Rane isnt that expensive, I found one on ebay for 875$ + shipping with the XP eq component... With the case though it will end up being 1.5k+ as well.

this is the best thread in mtlta in at least a year

@zeskg the urei comment was a bit of a joke that ravemontreal got...if it is for home use it is big time gear that you do not really need.

as far as control vinyls vs cdj for traktor (i use serato now but they are sort of similar) the vinyl is so much better to move through. I think zeskgs has 800's and the platter is decent, but it is nowhere near the control vinyls (i tried my 800 with serato before it broke last month...i wanted to sell it).

you are probably right about the gigging thing martin, as i don't gig...that being said it is a shame that there is no decks in clubs anymore, because i find that the nest music i buy is still vinyl only...that being said, the price it costs me to ship it to canada might make me slightly biased

about behringer zeskg , they are great pieces of start out kit, but have zero durabilty and their mixers can be compared to denon cdjs...just a few months for basic use and in the garbage. You really get what you pay for.

@psultan...thanks

and btw princessultan...i've only tried many of these mixers so my opinions can not be in depth.

I love my korg, the internal sound card is a bit shit, but 8 channels is win. The one mixer i never really liked (well more than one) is anything djm. The lay out and the feel of it just made mixing more difficult to me.

only my opinion of course.

zeskg.

you could get a 32 at home, and it would last you for years....you would save a lot of dough and if you play a club with the 92 the learning curve is near 0

i disagree about certain mixers being overkill for home use. i enjoy getting a new mixer using it for a bit and then selling it only to replace it with something else. i guess you can say i like collecting different mixers, lol.

i think we've discussed this before, but i've heard that the korg's have some sort of hissing sound???

i only got it a few months in but a firmware update fixed it. I got it before it came out here because i bought it with a group of people and we saved by cutting out the middle man....the sound card is still suspect, but either way i love it. I did change the knobs for metal ones that i found on the net, because they were smallish.

the rest of it is awesome and the latency is superb.

ok ok next topic...pre amps....GO!

then we can do cartridges for those of us that still buy records.

i have a boner

and you need to be careful if you buy gear with the intention of use for re selling because if it is proven not to be competent you could very well take a big loss on your original investment.

this thread should be changes to gear whores unite!

isn't it beautiful?

when i mix in the dark i fel like darth vader.

Well it's never overkill if you have lots of money,

but you really only feel that much difference in sound quality when you play loud on a big sound system. When it comes to playing loud, pioneer 800 sounds like shit, and Xone as nothing on the Rane (or the Urei).

At home I had a little Vestax PMC 25 and loved it. Very affordable (but discontinued)

As for vinyls, I always bring my timecode vinyls with me in all clubs, nobody as them. I would love to go back and play with them again, but clubs turntables are often in very bad condition, they never have needles (if so they are old and crappy). Plus playing turntables in a club environment is more risky, as it can skip a lot more, and skip + software = you are screwed.
