which is why i think this is politicking and corruption. Its all a little suspicious to me when it has to do with the OSPCA vs THS.
There should be an independent inquiry done on both entities

All these charges and liabilities... it's all just excessive verbosity for the assertion that they didn't euthanize animals that, according to the OSPCA, should have been euthanized.
All these graphic photos - yes, they're horrible, but it's as if they're trying to suggest that the THS did this to them. The THS takes in animals like that. That's the whole point. These photos are just exploiting people's emotions; how would you react if somebody showed you a burn victim, an amputee, or a cancer patient, and started sounding off about how they were being cruelly treated by the hospital?
Maybe I don't have the whole story, but I'm not convinced. To me this has all the markings of a philosophical war being waged using the police as a proxy, which is as morally reprehensible as anything else being discussed here (specifically the, um, four cats).
I've been in the position of having to put a sick animal down, I'm not against euthanasia, but it is an extremely difficult and painful decision to make, and I have no problem understanding why some people can't or won't do it in some cases. And this seems to be definitively about euthanasia, not animal cruelty - these people weren't seen kicking dogs or experimenting on cats - they're guilty of keeping them alive, oh, how awful.
I honestly don't know for sure who's in the right here, but I'd rather withhold judgment pending some clearer facts.

this.
keep in mind when you look at those pics; the animals probably looked much worse when they were taken in by the THS.

As if you can not make this story any worse....
I'd be TOTALLY pissed if money I donated to save animals goes to lawyers to save their sorry asses
| quote: | Donations to pay accused's legal bills
The Toronto Humane Society will use donor money to pay the legal costs of the four senior managers charged Thursday with criminal offences, the Star has learned.
It will also continue to pay the employees' salaries even though they cannot work at the THS until their court battles are resolved.
THS president Timothy Trow, chief veterinarian Stephen Sheridan, general manager Gary McCracken, business manager Romeo Bernardino and shelter supervisor Andy Bechtel were charged with conspiracy to commit an indictable offence and cruelty to animals. All but Sheridan were also charged with obstruction of a peace officer.
The entire board of directors faces non-criminal cruelty charges. Under THS bylaws, the organization must cover the legal costs of directors, including Trow. No such obligation exists for paid employees.
"We owe it to our employees," said secretary-treasurer Bob Hambley, named acting president at a board meeting Friday.
He added: "Morally, you have to protect your employees, and legally, you have to indemnify the directors."
That did not sit well with Peterborough resident Kelly South, a former Torontonian who said she has donated $50 per month to the THS for 17 years. She called the decision "disgusting" and "despicable."
"How can they do that?" she said.
Thornhill's Andrew Rucinskas, who said he and his wife have donated at least $180 a year for 20 years, also criticized the decision.
"The reason that we're donating money is to take care of the animals, not to defend these guys," said Rucinskas, 48.
On Friday, the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals again asked the provincial government to appoint a supervisor to take over control of the THS and its board. But the Ministry of the Attorney General rejected the request. Even though the ministry's Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee (PGT) oversees charities, it "does not have the power to appoint a supervisor or replace the board of directors," spokesman Brendan Crawley said.
"The PGT's responsibilities are limited to issues of the financial management of charitable property ... The PGT, at this time, does not have sufficient proof of financial mismanagement to bring this matter before the courts."
The board may face a referendum on its future by January.
The Association for the Reform of the Toronto Humane Society (ART) has obtained some 110 of the 300 signatures required under the provincial Corporations Act to call a general THS members' meeting for the purpose of removing and replacing the current directors.
Linda MacKinnon, ART co-founder, said the meeting could be held in late December. She would not reveal the names of those on the "fantastic" slate her group has set up, saying she wished to wait until the OSPCA completes its work with THS animals.
"It's a broad cross-section of people – of professional backgrounds; men and women; ethnicity; we have youth and older people," she said.
"It represents Toronto, in our minds, and we're just thrilled with the people that have come forward."
While the OSPCA continued its search of the animal shelter on River St., the THS president called the allegations against him baseless.
Reached at his home, Trow said: "There is no substance to the charges. I've never been unkind to an animal in my life."
Hambley called the allegations "a bunch of hooey" concocted by the OSPCA in an effort to gain control of the valuable THS donor list.
He said the THS would be open for normal business Tuesday, having named interim managers to fill the roles of the employees charged Thursday, and that the OSPCA would have no further role in its operations.
"Absolutely not," he said. "It's none of their business. None of their beeswax."
But former THS veterinarian Johanna MacNaughton, part of a group of former employees and volunteers who assisted the OSPCA at the shelter Thursday and Friday, said she had been told she and others would be caring for THS animals well beyond the Tuesday reopening.
Hambley and OSPCA CEO Kate MacDonald could not be reached for comment on the apparent discrepancy.
