Crowd ...NO! overall i gave this night 2.5 out of 5 and thats just because the dj upstairs helped me id a track I've been looking for ages . thats all

the new upstairs is nice. as a non-smoker i love it! esp when the main room music isn't my cup of tea which is very often... unfortunately no bookings either in the main room or upstaris attract my attention except for digweed on jan 2nd. was hoping satellite would have a monthly there along with bringing some serious headliners but that doesnt look like its happening thus far

Ruby is awesome place to see the more big name top djs. I always felt the smaller clubs always had the better vibe that really capture what SF is all about.

I went to this really cool fashion/art shin dig at the Mezzanine. Really cool shit and funky/hip people. that www.sfedm.com site will really help you out. Make sure to grab flyers from the different promoters too. I might be one of them

you can have really good nights or really bad nights at ruby. typically good nights happen when you go with a group of friends and/or you're going for a dj you know and really want to hear. otherwise as a place to just drop in on by yourself and expect to be wowed musically or meet cool people, not a good statistical chance. not to say it's impossible for it to happen, but to take a look at a majority of their bookings lately it's not likely for someone with more refined tastes. i don't know why you went for charles feelgood unless you just didn't know better. his brand of house music is pretty cheesy and commercial, which is imo what ruby is going for these days. i love deep and tech house as well and on that night i would have just stayed home. doc martin can be a phenomenal dj, but he plays drastically different at temple than say mission rock or triple crown or club six. the temple crowd is all about their funky house so he plays like that there. if you're into that scene, then you'll have fun. personally i love when he plays at 2nd sunday because it's straight up tech house and techno.

Sat nights at Ruby tend to have more of the B&T crowd and also more tourists...unless it's changed since I moved to LA.

i bet the upstairs could be made into a real awesome space but they have to do something about the light and decoration of the place, seriosuly its just too fucking bright

Yeah i think it was a bad call on my part , but there wasn't really much of a choice on the list schedule that night , I haven't partied in USA for more than 10 months i just really wanted to get a good buzz and listen to some loud noises comming out from the speakers , I just saw house and took a chance

This is becoming lame my late responses are taking for ever , I'm still n the process of moving.. moving sucks btw. Sorry guys.


Anyways the previous weekend after my not so good night at Ruby Skye , I went on a little tour around the city and decided to check out the area were I was goign to party next week , which was at "Temple". I drove around and saw it in the corner and then realized there was a hotel next to it , so it was goign to be easy to get around.


Next week I rented a room like around 8ish , slept till 11 30 pm and went down the street to the club .... to my surprise the place was almost empty and the people that were there , where between their 40 's and 50 's . I asked the dj that was playing, "is doc martin playing tonight??" , he laughed and said "no man this is "temple bar" he is probably in Temple Sf which is on Howard "... .


So i got in my car and headed that way ofcourse I got lost... again and finally arrived to temple sf at 12 : 15 am , I could hear through the door that Doc was banging "Julein chaptal - Mamdaye " no line at the door the bouncers seemed nice ,i told them what happened and they said that happens to a lot of people.


Finally I got in, cool place to be honest , sound system was pretty decent the place has a spacious dancefloor with a new age decoration , went to check out how it was downstaris for a bit , it was good as well but I personally prefered the upstairs . I loved the crowd . Chicks vs. guys were about 50 /50 , hot chicks yessss , the guys were chilled a wide variety of crowd i must say regarding ethnicities , didnt find any old asian crackheads doing the washing machine like in L.a. though lol


Doc's set was great! he played some funky deep house , ( r!ch was right ) with a slight touch of tech house , the man brings its for sure , first time i've ever seen him and the guy sure owned the place .had a chance to be behind the dj booth and the guy was spinning cd + vynils like a true champ . though he did go a little crazy with the vocals ,

I really had a great night thanks to the recommendation of bassel , I think I got a nice taste of whats about to come on the next months regarding the Sf edm for me

dunno what to do for New years eve though

lol @ temple bar, nice. if you had fun at doc/temple, i think you'll enjoy your stay in sf cause i assure you it gets a lot better than that. you gotta catch doc at 2nd sunday in the upstairs techno room next spring/summer if you like it darker and harder. he's also known to tear up endup, mighty and triple crown. at times he reminds me of behrouz when he cranks it up.

washers, haha. that's an la trademark you won't find much of around here (thank god) i mean there are still cracky people, but it's not so heinous or pervasive like it is in hollywood.

as far as new years goes, there's a pretty cool deep/tech house party at gaffta that i'm interested in partly because i've never been to their new venue and it's also afterhours. incognito is doing a techno party in 1015's basement. there's also a solid mix of tech house/techno locals at triple crown. if you're into soulful house, then ruby. big room/tech house at vessel, funky electro at club six, etc. i'm not sure what i'm doing yet. i'm a lot more interested in the day party at cafe cocomo with charles webster on the 1st and guy gerber live with alexi delano or digweed on the 2nd. super stoked about it in fact!

maybe i'll run into you next weekend. i'll be in sf all week this week, but on a bicycle. if you have one i can give you a pretty dope tour of sf, weather permitting. biking through on a clear day is the best way to see this town.
