because if you somehow make it sound good on a shitty pair of speakers then chances are it would sound amazing on a good pair?

or maybe im jus totally missing the loop here..

but ive been using my ipod headphones for awhile now, (until christmas when i will treat myself to some Sennheiser's)

and really no one has been able to tell, ive even sent my tracks to big labels and ive gotten replys back and they do critize me on stuff and tell me i have a long ways to go, they still get suprised when i tell em im still a 18 year old broke student and theyve never actually critized the sound,

so what do yo guys think?

you need to use a reference track if you're gonna use shitty headphones otherwise your mix will translate poorly to speakers & other sound systems. i mixed with cheap logitech headphones at one point & though i thought the levels were on point, it translated to shit(disappearing bassline, overpowering kick & what have you)

Most people will say you can produce professional quality mixes with 1$ headpones if you learn to know them. Even then that everything you hear thru them sounds absolutely garbage and shitty and because of that you won't know what is wrong with your mix?!

ipod headphones

ipod headphones.... and your sending your stuff of to labels...do some research or better still go to a music shop and listen to a few pairs of headphones...studio ones. your mixes will improve 10fold... and also spend as much as you can afford 300-500 of a set of speakers. on a good pair of speakers or headphones you can hear when something is out in a mix.... on my krks i know just by looking at the speaker if there is anything in the bottom end that shouldnt be there.
