Oh, I did spin once at a friends party. Never again. Don't get me started, I'll just say that my friends are not the people you can do that for. Every single thing that can annoy a DJ happened that night. Currently the usual procedure is that someone puts in a CD and 3 minutes lates some exclaimes "What kind of crap is this, I'll play some decent music!" and puts his CD in. 3 minutes after that, da capo. Gives you an idea how it is to DJ for them.

Yeah luckily I had rather open minded friends who enjoyed getting stoned and listening to crappy dance music while playing wii bowling in my room.

Sooooo... err... opinions anyone?

In Holland we got spoiled by master mixer Ben Liebrand who inspired many Dutch DJ's. I used to listen to his grandmixes late 80's and 90's. People stayed home to listen to his mixes.
Grandmix 2009: tomorrow 31-12 @18:00 (GMT+1), but also 18:00 for Germany his 2009 Grandmix will be played at Slam!FM.

If you like you can listen here: http://www.nederland.fm/ Hit the Slam!FM logo (upper right corner next to Radio1)

O, almost forgot: http://www.liebrand.com/grandmix/index.html

This is why he is called master mixer: http://www.liebrand.com/la/overview.html

Found some additional info about the mix:

This Grandmix again is continuing on new concepts like mixing in "open" breaks without drums and perfecting mixing tracks with matching key to the point that it becomes very hard to notice where one track starts and another stops.

Who can someone who's terrible inspire so many DJ's and be called Godfather of mixing in the Netherlands?

http://www.liebrand.nl/inspired/

His mixing skills don't have anything to do with his track selection. He's not a beat mixer like many DJ's.
If you want to become a better mixer it could help to analyse some of his mixes.
Of course you could pick many other good ones too, but Ben is a mixing pioneer who's still doing it as we speak.

German Wiki: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Liebrand

Maybe every country has a Ben...

Now this thread already is about Slylee, Marcel Proust's magnum opus and that mix some talentless dick posted here. Let's not make it about Liebrand, too. He definitely was very influential, although I haven't listened to a lot of his stuff, since we've been spoiled even more in Germany by the awesome DJ Deep.

Don't worry, didn't mean to post another one about him. Most of my cd's I bought in Germany, but was always looking for non-mix compilations. However, when I was addicted to Turn Up The Bass, there were House Party and Megamixes which I did buy. The intro's always were awesome. E.g. Turn-Up-The-Bass-Megamix-1995. Just listened to some of 1991 and 1992

About the equipment, did you considered something like the Digital Reloop Jockey II?
If I didn't have two young kids I would have bought one.
You can use it with Traktor, but probably you already know.

I haven't considered cause I don't have the money right now. As I said, buying some music /DJ equipment is one of the things I want to do in the future.

Do it; you will love it, even if it is just for your mp3 player or CDs in your car.

DLing btw.

Exactly how it goes at (birthday) parties of the friends I have.

I spend many hours listening to EDM, browsing multiple forums, going out clubbing etc, but I myself don't DJ. I'm almost done with my study, so when I start working, I can start looking for housing, and it will definitely include a room with DJ equipment. Then I can start playing.. but alas it won't be for friends like Clovis does.

Stupid friends of mine who only listen to Dutch crap (or hardstyle/hardcore)!
