Or would three be enough ?

I thought six sigma was total overall variance, so three to the lower, and three to the max.

with heat in the summer it is cheaper for us to raise it 8 degrees during the day when we are at work. This works because it is cooler in the morning and evening and hot during the day. the temp variance between outside and inside during the re-cooling period is low making it easier to re-cool.

NOw with heat it is coldest during the morning and evening and warm during the day. So if you make the inside cooler by 8 degrees during the day the reheat process is working during periods where the outside/inside temperature difference is greatest. That makes the furnace work harder than it would for keeping the heat constant.

I just blacked out...that is how you debate!!

that would be a 3 sigma process. 6 sigma is 12 std dev across upper and lower spec limits.
