Okay, I'll give you that. But lets put it this way then: let's say your parents die and you get full guardianship over your brother/sister, who is a complete retard. What would you do in that case? It's not really the same, because the blood band is not the same, but I think it's comparable enough for this discussion.

I would put them in a home, man. I wouldn't even think twice about it. I know for a fact I wouldn't be able to devote the kind of time and energy needed to provide the right care for such a person.

In fact, one of the secretaries at my bf's work has a preteen autistic son, and she's putting him in a home when he's 16, because she simply cannot care for him.

Why at 16? Does this have anything to do with legal issues?

Of course, putting him in a home is probably the most obvious decision. It would take it all off your hands. But he would still be costing the society money, and if he won't even be able to recognize his father/mother, I wouldn't know if I could grow attached to him, had he been my own.

Yeah some legal shit.

But sorry, to answer your original question...yes I would consider euthanasia. Again, the ethics of the situation depend on the values of people involved, and if laws were in place in society that allowed euthanasia, I would do it.

So you really are a heartless bitch, you're not just acting like one in the COR.

No j/k, I feel the same way (and I'm getting the feeling many others do too).

It would be nice to have a couple of responses from people who are in fact parents.

I know of many non-classified retarded grown ups that do not contribute to society in any way.

My brother is now 7...and he grew up with no symptoms of autism or any disability (tested by Yale. U). However, he cannot speak to save his life. He only knows how to say words without connecting them. He doesn't know distinction of colors and is not very active with other kids. He does have some mental problem, that is discrete to professionals.

If your sibling turns out to have a disability, no matter of what you think now, you would still love them, even more than your other kids. I love my bro and I am willing to support him even if he interferes greatly with my personal life.

fuck that noise.

retarded people are said to have a high pain threshold, so beating them with a bat would be much more fun. Plus you could sample the moans for a nu disco record.
