Scientists estimate that 3 or 4 asteroids miss us by a couple hundred miles every week. It's pretty impossible to tell where they are until after they go by us. The number of people in the world looking for asteroids that will hit us is only slightly more than the number of people who work at a McDonalds. We're all more likely to die in a car accident or from lung cancer/liver failure than get hit by an asteroid, set off a black hole at CERN, or get killed by terrorists on an airplane.
