well lets not discuss hypothetical here, point to a record you're talking about and lets analyze it. most people don't pick boomy kicks when they have big basslines, in contrast most people don't pick short punchy kicks when they have tight toms for a bassline. they don't work together as well. most buzzy sustained basslines aren't harmonized with buzzy sustained chords. the original topic is very vague so lets clarify and i'll see if i'm any help
