nope. all the millions who tried and failed never had the talent to get there to begin with. the ones who tried and made it squandered theirs. tiesto and armin were really talented at one point in time, when trance was fresh and new. they came to a fork in the road and decided to take the path most traveled to make boatloads of money instead of staying at the tip of the sword and being an original. i can't fault them for making that choice, but i don't have to respect them or what they're doing. anyone who's followed armin and tiesto since their early days will agree that they've never been as good as they were before they arrived at their coveted dj mag status. it has a lot to do with their money-hungry agents/managers and their willingness to follow their guidance lockstep. at the end of the day i really don't give a shit about these top djs and their lives, but i hate seeing this stupid ass argument about "they're making millions, they must be doing something right!" it means they're making money, not respectable music. learn the difference people.

"Respectable music" in the EDM world is very subjective. What you might consider respectable, I might consider it boredom and vice versa. Eitherway, it's a known fact that once you get that big, you'll get hated on like crazy.

you play top 40 mashups so i'm quite sure your opinion of respectable differs from mine. the question is how well you can rationalize what respectable is and in what context you're speaking from. if your rationale for respectability is simply "$$$", then you are full of shit. you talk to anyone who tries to sell you on tiesto's music today and it's always the same argument... $$$ DJMAG $$$ DJMAG $$$. try pulling that argument in the music discussion forum, where people know what they're talking about.

lol I don't play mashups, I actually don't like them. lol I play latin & yes, mainstream stuff like Guetta.

Eitherway, my passion still EDM, with some of my favorite DJ's being Sasha, Digweed, James Holden, Mauro Picotto, Sander K, Gui Boratto, Sven Vath, Masiello, Hawtin, and yes Tiesto & PVD. As you can see, I'm pretty open minded and broad with my music. I appreciate all sorts of music.

I agree with making $$$ not being the same as respect, but one thing I do respect is the hustle. That's where they get my respect. Without the hustle they wouldn't be where they at.

This conversation has totally strayed from the original question...

We're talking about money. Guetta has FMIF and a bunch of hit songs. He doesn't compare to Armada or Tiesto.

I would say Tiesto is probably first. He's been selling out arenas, he had a shoe deal, he has deals with Armani Exchange and Smirnoff, etc. He also had black hole recordings and is now starting his own label.

Armin is probably close second now. Armada is a fucking powerhouse. Just look at their roster. They not only have all of their artists but they have sublabels such as Coldharbour and Magic Island. Armada has great depth in the electronic world.

Then I would guess Moby or Daft Punk because of all their album sales... there's also Oakenfold who very likely still sells a lot of albums, also has Perfecto records and his Vegas deal.

Also likely selling tons of albums: Crystal Method, Prodigy, Groove Armada...

after that it's hard to say.

Yeah, but this is a thread about money. Nobody's talking about their music here except you.

Re: Who are the highest grossing edm edm dj's/producers♠

everyone knows the genesis of the discussion is... david guetta tao thread -> david guetta $$$ thread -> to this clever compartmentalization down to money

my posts relate directly to this point
