If you can stretch your budget another $20, you should be able to find the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 system. Pretty much the best bang for the buck set of computer speakers you can come across.

I used them for years and actually learned to DJ/mix on them. They're no studio monitors, but they get the job done and as someone else said have great punch to them. There are occasional sales that bring it close to 100 bucks, you just gotta dig a little.

I've got about $100 to spend on speakers for my new laptop. It'll probably not leave my bedroom for the most part, and I'd like to have some decent sound in here. I'm checking on Amazon, but would would also like any input anyone has in this price range.
You could look for an old pair second hand, then get either
get an amp that has RCA input (anything from the 90's should) but speaker wiring output...
I do agree though logitec has good speakers for the pricing. The X540 is selling for 70$ new.
Amazingly the Z2300 is selling for the same price it sold for 6 years ago, and the dollar in Canada is worth more now. I got mine new on sale for less than they sell for now, and it is a stronger dollar.

BTW the X540 is a 5.1 surround system that sells for $140 CAD but is selling for $67 new on Ebay. It is only 70W though. Z2300 is 120W 2.1
If you are deaf or hard of hearing don't do the X540.
