here in toronto women definitely dominate the bartending industry.
i think the reason is because most customers at the bar are guys (buying drinks for themselves or for some girl they just met). women generally dont spend as much at the bar as men do. another thing ive learned in my years of doing club photography is women have no problem looking at other women. guys dont want to look at another guy.

while that may true about a certain club demographic, it is completely false for higher end establishments or restaurants. There is more to bartending than just a loud club playing electronic music.

This is LoveHate we're talking about here, he certainly won't be at any high end establishment.

i've bartended in classy bar-restaurant and i didnt have problem getting hired. they basically gave me 3 nights to see how i would perform, i could see the owner was at the bar talking to regular customers and also watching me. if you're efficient with making drinks, fast, clean and know how to handle yourself with intoxicated people which requires some social skills, you'll do fine.

oh and don't drink while behind the bar. even though someone offers a shot to you. just say you don't drink while on duty. this might depend on management but most places don't like when bartenders drink

i had lot of fun bartending, met lot of interesting people and heard lot of stories, even though some i wish i hadn't. overall its good money(i also got paid hourly on top of tips) and good experience

hey what are you trying to say.

well since i am turning 19, i bet small college bars would work fine for me, i have noticed that the workers there are usually, 1-2 guys to 3 girls.

i don't really want to start off as a bar back though, if i have a bar tending certificate, would it still be necessary to start at the bottom

protip: getting a bartenders certificate to work at a college dive bar is as useful as slylee's psychology book.

I work in a pub. Our assistant manager is the same age as me (24) and is put in charge of all menial tasks such as hiring. People come in looking for work every single day. We're not desperate for more staff at the moment, but if a really fit girl comes in then in all likelihood she'll get some hours, because everyone (especially the assistant manager) likes fit girls.

The point is, if a place is desperate for staff, then they'll take anyone. If not, then they can be really picky. And since bar work is something anyone can do (don't kid yourself into thinking it isn't) then fit girls will generally get the nod. But luckily for you, fit girls are rare, unless you're in Santa Monica or somewhere.

And no 'bar-tending certificate' (the very concept of which made me laugh my ass off), will get you out of glass collecting if that's what they want you to do. It's all about experience, something which is apparent instantly if you watch someone working.
