sorry but rane products are know for superior sound quality...they have not failed at it yet, so i am inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt.

And break. Just comparing the aesthetic appeal.

i've been waiting forever for this to come out, and all i wanna know is why, on a Rane product no less, the fader suite is located to the *right* of the center of the mixer when Mixer Geometry 101 dictates they be to the left (due to the fact that you contact the platters on their leftmost edges).

This seems like a major fail to me, and aside from being annoyed i'm just plain confused. i contacted Rane and they said the dj's they surveyed "agreed it made more sense" to have the dual mic panels on the left and give the nerve center of the whole performance sloppy seconds. Unbelievable.

It's funny how some people praise this design and call the DJM-2000 a toy. (I'm not talking about sound quality, just purely the design.)

I think they both look goofy.

i liked the layout of the Korg Zero4 with the midi controls for each channel next to the eq's for each channel. a lil cluttered, yes, but logical and intuitive. ashame they gave up on it.

closest thing to a midi mixer that's still designed "from the faders up" is the Evo4, but that only has 4 dedicated midi knobs. i know you can dual-purpose pretty much all the controls on it as midi but i like to keep it simple.

i basically like the 68's design and functionality as far as the Serato control goes, but it's clearly designed "from the features" down", which seems like kinda a sign of the times. When they tried to defend the decision by saying "well it's designed more as a club installation mixer than a performance mixer" i said, "what kind of clubs, karaoke ones or ones with dj's?", hehe..

Hopefully Serato come out with an SL4 soon so you don't need the 68 to access all 4 channels in 2.0.
