He asked for:

1. something that does not have big breakdowns or supersaws
2. not something by the big names
3. came in the early history of trance

I would suggest something by the labels I've mentioned.
Anyone else might recommend anything else.

Also the guy clearly asked for CDs with none of the big names. So in case of that you have to dig deeper for the earlier years. I can't
Although now when I read his first post it's kind of contradictive. He gives examples of Magik and ISOS but don't want anything by Tiesto or Oakie or any big names.

We clearly must have a different opinion of the style of sound. I would definetly say that the majority of stuff that was producde in 99-00 have a closer resemblance to the trance of today than it have to the stuff that was produced in the early 90s.

I totally agree.

Compilations:

I said nothing about style. The 1999 era of trance may not sound particularly like classic trance, but it's unquestionably a different period of trance history to the present: different key names, different key labels, different clubbing context, different production methods and different sounds. It's an earlier period by every definition and interpretation.

But let's be clear: you're used to newbies referring to 1999 epic trance as "trance classics" or "old school trance" so you have your cut and paste patronising response you deliver without any thought or any consideration of actually helping people.

It's a pretty simple concept. He will already own the obvious compilations from the big names, so he wants something in their ilk that isn't as well known. And despite what you seem to think, more trance compilations were released in that period than what Tiesto and Oakey put their names to.

I must have interpreted his original post as "earlier" as in the earliest years. Not as something from it's mid-life range. That's why I came off confused. I agree that the vibe of 1999 is different to the earliest years and also different to the vibe of today. That applies not only to melodic or progressive trance but also to psy trance.

I am kind used to average trance.nu type of posts about trance hence my answer. This was recently posted over at the trance.nu board in a thread about "which is your favourite year of trance?"

Some guy:

quote:
89-95 Trance

some other guy:

quote:
There was a Trance between those years ?

must be Euro-Dance

all DJ Precision (NL) sets = Real Trance

Some people actually think educating is helping, does the motive behind it really have that much to say? And even if patronising, if the suggestions are good who gives a shit?

I fully understand how people who have been here for almost a decade have their cut and paste answers to most newbies asking for whatever. Most of the time they deserve all the patronising and flak they get, because they're lazy ignorant kids who expect everything to be handed to them on a platter. You have to expect a couple of innocent casualties.

Is it just me or does J seem like in a bad mood? I'm probably next.

Couch-potato is not a newbie and he has undoubtedly heard it all before. If you can't even be fucking bothered to listen to the person and consider they might not need educating, why the hell should you expect any newbies to listen to you? There's a reason so many of them on TA develop a persecution complex.

This patronising manifesto is annoying because it's elitism of the irritating kind. Imagine some jazz or classical snob who responds to every request thread by recommending irrelevant records on the grounds jazz or classical are obviously superior to dance music and they're educating people on good music. It'd be annoying as hell.
