while i agree that live sets are completely contextual and you can not completely judge them from home as they are specific to the moment. That being said, what Halliwell does would have me walk out of the club within seconds. I love turntablists too, and having been exposed to them for quite a bit in my life, i can safely say that he fails hard at it. Trance heads just think he is good, because he is one of the only ones in the genre that does it.

Any purist would agree that his skills are laughable at best, and he doesn't play good enough music to make up for that.

Some people like that crap abel ramos does too.

I can honestly say that I'm totally embarrassed by what he does now, and the 'trance heads' (for whatever reason) do still love him for it.

But personally, I'm referring to his golden days when he was using vinyl and scratched 'properly', when he brought a unique spin to the scene, a unique mixing style and a wider variety of music. To see him live then, well, they are some of my most memorable clubbing moments.

And fuck Abel Ramos

i'm not trying to crucify you or anything, but even in his so called "glory days" his turntablist skills could not be classified as mediocre even.

I grew up watching guys like Kid Koala absolutely rape a turntable with skill and precision. There is no way you are going to make me think that the crap Halliwell did was ever good.

Well compared to turntablists and some old hip hop DJ's, I absolutely agree that his skills are mediocre. But in the trance music scene, it was something new and very enjoyable to see.

fair play to the dood... that intro is fuckin mint.

but i have seen him live a few times before.. and to be honest, ive found his sets more annoying than anything. he is the only DJ ive seen start dropping hard house in gatecrasher, which was idiotic.

but back on track// bosh was a great free CD

he's got some dj skill, but his taste in music is rather terrible. zabiela in his prime (03-05) was leaps and bounds better. in fact even zabiela today is better.

I remember a couple of years ago, one of the CDJ's broke during one of his gigs and he did an entire 2 hours using just one CD deck and a EFX unit. Awesome .

wow that's gangster! i'm surprised the club didn't have spare cdjs, i guess that happens a lot to him. back when he first started using appletron, i caught him over here one night where he broke not 1, not 2, but 3 cdjs and had to finish up on the laptop. it was quite honestly the best set i've heard from him in person. part of the magic was how the dj booth was set up on the dance floor with no pretentious stage managers...

I'm no expert but I would guess Its harder to apply trunablist skills to trance than it would be to hip hop or breaks?

I think its almost missing the point though, I personally think he had a great idea of dropping the right tracks at the right time with a good degree of technical ability.

Marco V one was great to. In fact, the majority of the Mixmags CD are actually a great listen, even Tiestos one this year was listenable.

The other album looks interesting, I'll check it out.
