but this study looked at housing cost in comparison to salaries earned.

So where actual costs may be higher, salaries match that cost.

The cost of owning a home in Vancouver maybe cheaper however the expenses of electricity, gas, gasoline or food could be 30 to 50% more than in Toronto. To me, it's all an organized capitalistic scheme. You won't win.

I was just in Vancouver last weekend. Gas was at 1.08. General groceries were slightly higher, not not that much.

Most electronics was way off price. I went to this London Drugs at Lougheed Centre in Burnaby. I would say prices are from 5%-10% higher than here.


$1300 a month gets you an old 1-bedroom on the west side (Sunset Beach)... it's crammed though, here's my friend's kitchen;


The bright side is that there's palm trees around the city all year round


and the view is to die for

good pics, btw. I'm there next week, always love going home (from Ottawa). Some spots do have palm trees but I believe they're covered up during winter when it can drop to -5 occasionally.

In Feb, typically our coldest month in Ontario, Van is in partial bloom, well on its way to spring.. you'll see a bit of that everyday when the Olympics are on. Right now it is about 9-10C and will stay that way. We've been lucky with our winter in Ontario so far.

Houses are expensive, about 600K on average but the salaries there don't justify owning a house that expensive, imo.

oh shit... I forgot to mention... Sushi is EXTREMELY cheap in Vancouver! I had lunch takeout outside a skytrain entrance downtown.... 18 pc for $6.99 This was very common to get deals like this everywhere there.

AJ you're a star mate, that last picture was hilarious... especially with that caption. Otherwise some good info on a city I am trying to learn more about.
I plan on making my way back to BC (van in particular) for good after I get in and finish my mba, keep your fingers crossed for me!
