I have seen it occassionally, but it is rare. And I couldn't tell you where i saw it, I just know i have seen it in a shop.
Try 1st Choice. I'm pretty sure it wasn't Dan Murphy's which does suggest it may have been 1st.

Haven't seen that around here either!

FUCK!

I can get all of this stuff, if I order it from my local bottle shop, but unless the manager is into it himself, then I have to order a case of it. And it's pricey. For a case of Edel-Weisse (20 x 500ml bottles) it's $100. I'd pay it (and have), except for the problem... If I have a case of really good beer sitting around, it tends to get devoured fairly quickly

I just want to try a bunch of good beers without being tied down to $100+

Sam Adams Boston Lager. Probably the best accessible American beer and it stacks up well against a lot of other beers. Quite a European taste, not exactly what you're expecting from an American beer. It'll cost you about $28 for a six pack from Dan Murphy's.

See if you can get your hands on Hofbrau Oktoberfest or Maibock. Bit different from normal Hofbrau but can be a little bit of a trek to track them down.

Vale Ale. Comes from McLaren Vale, a brewery in a wine district.......
Knappstein. Comes rom Clare Valley, however these guys are a winery who also do a beer. Haven't had it, but I am keen to give it a shot.
Lobethal Bierhaus. Can't remember which one I had but it was very good indeed. They do mailorder from their website.

no doubt pkc will come in here at some stage suggesting Moo Brew

I posted the weihenstephaner because it's probably similar in style to the erdinger beer you started the thread with. Weihenstephaner weissbier is one of my favorite beers I've ever had, without a doubt...blew my mind the first time I tried it.
My second favorite hefe is Paulaner. Maybe you've seen it down by you?
Cash!

It tastes good to me, but I'm curious how it's thought of in the land of beers.

As a matter of fact, I'm drinking an Erdinger right now. Does this answer your question?
The general rule of thumb is: When buying German beer buy Bavarian beer. Most of it is good, which one is the best is of course a matter of taste. Beer-wise, Bavaria is to Germany what Germany is to the World. It's no coincidence that there are more breweries here than in the entire rest of the country.
