So we wouldn't get yelled at for mixing songs together that aren't ours, and then releasing them as a podcast?

Best route is live podcast, you can play any songs live. The problem is if you archive the podcast and let user download it.

Wrong. There is no problem with archiving podcasts.

If you are playing a bunch of songs from beginning to end, no mixing and throw up a 320, you might get reported. Like I said, if putting up dj mixes was any sort of issue, most of us wouldn't be here

A mix and a podcast is different. Podcast is a radio show , you need something like ASCAP music licensing if your doing a radio show if you are archiving the show. You can play any song live tho on the radio show as long as you don't have the copy righted song on the archive podcast.

But the sound of it, seem like the OP is just releasing weekly mixes. Which i see no problem with copyright, along as it's not talk show or sell ad on your show you be fine.

You're not going to run into any legal issues. Labels love to see people supporting their releases through mixes, especially when you include a tracklist with label information. As Inferno said, unless you're playing tracks unmixed from beginning to end or selling it, you'll be fine. Whether you release it in podcast format or not has nothing to do with it.

Hey I tried to hit you back with the pm but it wouldn't let me send, sorry about the lack of reply! I just host mine on hipcast because it was cheap, reliable, and easy to use. From that point I just submitted the feed to iTunes to review for their store and a few days later they accepted it. For copyright information I just stated that it was for promotional use only and all rights are reserved by the original artists. Seemed to work out fine (fingers crossed, lol)
Anyone else aware of other directories one might submit their podcast feed to aside from iTunes? I'm still trying to figure everything out.

Cool, I appreciate all the replies! And no worries about the speed of your's Henry, we're not in a rush by any means We'll definitely be mixing them together on turntables, and will most likely be uploading them in ~128, as to save webspace. Thanks for all the info!

Guess we'll try making a website and hosting them ourselves at first like keithos, and then trying to get them on iTunes as well after a bit.

FYI iTunes doesn't ever host them for you... they just act as a directory. so even when people find your podcast via iTunes it still points to your server.
