In truth, the Sound Factory died long before it closed its doors. It was undoubtedly the victim of its own success, and as it grew older (it opened in March 1989), the family of dancers who arrived each week with the regularity of worship, saw their hallowed ground trespassed upon by outsiders who had no understanding of what had happened there. Voyeurs, spectators, tourists swelled the crowd to uncomfortable levels. There was no room on the dancefloor, no respect for people’s space. The Leigh Bowery-esque ‘look-at-me’ freaks from clubs like Limelight invaded, further destroying the simple focus of music and dance.

This is a good point. I know alot of people make a big deal about how hard it is to get into Berghain / Panoramabar in Berlin. This is the exact reason. Too many people want to go just to see what the big deal is.

PS. Where you been John? Hope eveything is good!

I went to club Spirit long time ago. Was that formerly known as Twilo?

It's sad that I wasn't into electronic music back during Sasha&Digweed residency but I was only in high school at the time. It would have definitely been nice to check out their shows. I can't say much for Junior because he has too much of a gay crowd

You're not getting the point. Junior (like pretty much every EDM pioneer in the country) did parties for the minorities: the gays, blacks, hispanics, the ones who weren't represented in other social events went to these clubs. If it wasn't for DJs like him, we'd have a very different thing in the US, especially NYC, and you prob would've never heard of S&D. I'd still suggest you to check out a Junior night, they're still awesome.

I totally agree..

A couple of years back I stayed at Crobar very late to hear Calderone. There had to be a 4 to 1 ratio of gays to straights. I must say it was one of the better party’s I ever attended. (ps im straight as an arrow )
