I plan on making my first trip up there this year as well. It is long long long overdue for me. I wanted to wait until after I survive WMC this year before I book anything for DEMF, but I'm thinking I might miss out on hotels and such.

I agree! Marriot Ren. Cen. is a great place to stay. Its classy, and affordable. But lately ive been staying at the Marriot Courtyard whenever I stay downtown. It is directly across the street from the Renaissance Center Marriot on jefferson ave., its cheaper, and its just as nice. Im not sure what it would cost during Demf weekend, but the last 3 times that i've stayed there during fall/winter 09.. rooms were about $120-130/night.

I will be going, if for no other reason, to see Inner City and Model 500 Live PAs.

Thanks for the info. I ended up switching my hotel reservation to the Double Tree and adding an extra night, so I'm there Fri - Tuesday. Double Tree for 4 nights is cheaper than the Renaissance for 3.

What will make this trip challenging is I'm afraid to fly so I have to deal with 40 hours of train travel. I know I have to deal with this fear of flying stuff, but not ready for it now. I think a long commute is well worth it for DEMF.

Trust me, Xanax works some wonders. A lot of people I know who are anxious about flying take it. I actually had to feed my ex some (hidden in his breakfast) the first time he flew and he was mostly happy during the flight taking pictures out the window He travels very often now.

Or you could drive up with people, the drive from NY is 10 hours.

Renaissance Marriott was booked up when I called. Booked at the Courtyard across the street.

So ready.

Thanks for the tip. I'm an Ativan gal myself.

I used to fly, but stopped in 2001 before 9/11. And for the last 9 years, I have heard hundreds of horror stories about security, long waits on the runway, turbulence, and equipment problems. That has not boosted my confidence that I'll have a smooth flying experience. Eventually I'll get back on a plane, but I don't want to deal with the stress of worrying about flying.

I'm a pro with Amtrak and will go that route. I know it's expensive and looooong, but for the piece of mind, it's worth it. I know I can handle it. I once went to Mississippi from Philly and it took me almost 30 hours. I know I'm crazy, but a phobia is really powerful.

Any benzodiazepine does the job, Xanax (diazepam) works a little better for panic attacks which you could get if you're really freaked out about flying, it mellows you out before a panic attack gets you all crazy and doesn't completely knock you out. Ativan (lorazepam) is stronger and even used for insomnia, plus there's a higher risk of addiction.

You'll get over it in your own time, don't worry

Back to the thread topic, I have a job interview tomorrow, hopefully everything goes well and I'll have enough cash for DEMF

how dare you forget the epic corndogs!

i will be making the drive out from NY with Garth + maybe a few more of our friends from Brooklyn. looking forward to reuniting with some MWTAs.
